So Harry, XP's not so bad afterall. The Window's 10 is the direct conduit into NASA no doubt without the need for middlemen. Now they need only readers who can decipher the text and come to conclusions regarding posters...Nice work MS. Another Government clone same as Google and the rest.
    NASA?

You mean they are using my TD posts to plan the next space mission?

Well fuck my old boots, that's pretty cool.

Is it scary that Microsoft can theoretically see everything you type in the Windows 10 Technical Preview?
Why are they using a technical preview of the OS to fix the spell-checker or a search box? Wouldn't that be a task more suited to a beta release of Office or something?

Why would anybody knowingly install a keylogger from a company with Microsoft's history?

It's really simple lads. If you want privacy, don't connect to the Interwebnet.

Mind you, they've probably bugged your house anyway.

Microsoft are going to give Windows 10 away free to all users of Windows 7, 8 and Windows Phone for a period of one year from release.

I'm happy with windows 7 for pc , but made the grave mistake of buying a windows phone which is a pathetic operating system.

Just when I got used to no start menu. Windows 8 has grown on me after a shaky start. But I still mostly ignore the metro screen and apps.

They have not given a precise date. Later this year.

Just now I have installed WIN 7 on my wifes computer. Hard work to get her to change from XP.

Sure will get the free update but very likely not run them, will see.

It means that you have to register within one year. Not that it expires after one year once registered.

Microsoft business model is to move to monthly / yearly subscriptions rather than buying the product and it being supported.

Would not be at all surprised if they do this with windows as well with a lot of people getting a shock after a year and not having read the small print.

As usual you calculate 2+2, get 21 and believe you have solved the mystery of the universe.

This is exactly the same offer as they did when introducing Windows 8. There was a 3 months timespan where you could do a free upgrade. This time it is one year. They try to push market share of the new OS.

True though that they try to switch to subscription instead of purchase. They may offer WIN 10 for subscription. But you can still buy Office, if you want to.

If you want always the newest product, subscription might be the better option. Especially when they speed up product cycles. I prefer purchase and use it as long as feasible.

Besides, if it were a one year limited use offer the internet would ring with the news within minutes after release. No way to sneak it in through the fine print.

    I have windows 10 and it's good.

I don't think they want to charge for the OS because they want to get you into their eco system, well integrated with office, explorer, bing, movies, music, etc - they make money from those, so the OS is a kinda loss-leader (and a pretty good one).

I've paid for an annual license of MS Office, and it integrates perfectly with my desktop and cloud, so does everything I need from a 'mobile office'. Good stuff.

I have one question about it. Once WIN 10 update is installed can you still dualboot to your old OS or is it purely WIN 10?
