    What new laptop in Thailand???

    Hello All,

The missus is in Thailand and wants to buy a new laptop in the next week or so.

She wants to spend between 15-20,000 Thai baht, not above 20,000 Thai baht.

She uses it for internet, so yes all the crap: facebook, line, skype and other shite. A 14" is her preferred size. She'll just whack on windows 7 or 8 for 100 baht.

I'm not in Thailand, so I don't know what's available.

    Whatcha reckon?

Maybe just an Acer to get decent bang per buck?
    Cycling should be banned!!!

Most brands are available, you just need to tell her the spec to get and don't buy shit like Dell.

I'm not an Acer fan myself, rather like Lenovo at the moment.

Go to Amazon, set a price range, then start setting the bits you want.

And don't forget Touchscreen for Windows 10

    What's a sweet pricepoint?

My basic look seems to suggest that for 16-17000 baht you can get an ok i3 with 4mb ram with all the stuff you need. No SW.

Have a look at Lazada.co.th, then you can decide and order and she can pay cash when it is delivered.

For hardware reliability, heard you can't beat Leenovo but have also spoken to so-called 'computer guru's' that reckon those USIS brand laptops are the best.

^ I think she's decided (after reading from the experts on Pantip...) that ACER, Lenovo and HP are ok brands. That's fine by me...

Thanks QC, having a look now.

Any thoughts on this one: HP 14-r225TU Notebook Laptop review spec promotion price - Notebookspec.com

She'd like a nice webcam if possible, otherwise she'd whack on a USB webcam. She'll use my Beats Pill for sound via USB.

^ there will be, no, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, fukin touchscreen going on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!

Just checked the HP out, and seems to have an awful webcam. No surprise to me, as I'm of the opinion that cheap HPs are utter shite. I will try to steer the missus away from HP and towards Lenovo or ACER, just wanna find one in the price range with a good webcam...

^ yes, I'm starting to think, after a couple of hours of research, she may need to get an i5 as these usually come with an HD cam.

    ^^ she is considering a 15".

This one could be a winner:

Then buy her a desktop you dopey fucker, you'll get better specs.

She's probably only going to park it on a desk and watch Thai soaps anyway.

^ yep, been doing that. Decent site, thanks.

^^ she will be bringing it from Thailand to here (laptops are very expensive in Korea), and maybe elsewhere in future (for example, if I go back to Engerland next year).

She did mention looking at a small portable PC to plug into a screen, and that's not a bad idea, but a 14" or 15" laptop is just so easy... Mine here (HP shite...) is plugged into my 42" screen and works a treat via HDMi - standard and simple stuff.

I'm liking those ACER E5s; they come in 14" (for 15,000 baht) or 15" (for 18,000 baht), have HD webcam and a decent screen. Could be just the ticket for her - I've asked her to phone the site QC suggested to see if they deliver. Install windows for 300 baht and job's done. I would prefer one that came with windows preinstalled, but that doesn't seem to be an option...

    Dell are good...

I don't like ACER and wouldn't buy one for meself, but it'll suit her well - cheap with an HD cam and decent battery life for the flight over...

For a bit more money there's a 15" Lenovo with 64 bit 8.1 installed which will be genuine and not preloaded with adware and fuck knows what else. 720p HD webcam too. Only thing lacking is a separate graphics card but presumably she isn't going to be playing Crysis II with all the settings at max so it'll be OK.
    Lenovo G5070 (59412505) Core? i5-4200U 15.6" 4GB - Black | ???????

They deliver everywhere BTW, you can put your postcode into the box top right to see an estimate of how long it'll take. I just put mine in and it says a week, free delivery and COD available.

^ thanks. Sent her the link. I'd get that meself over the ACER, and I told her so, but I left the choice up to her - I think at that price, these i3 and i5 4gb machines, with HD webcam are all pretty decent and will do what she needs...

Lenovo is making considerable strides throughout Asia now.
Known for their solid state and all around.

Acer would be a close second.

but I doubt it will make much difference - the new CPUs are power savers but only come in i7's and pricey at the moment
