    Downloads

Fcuk if I know which thread to put this in. As said before I'm computer illiterate. Anyways, my problem is that I download films on my PC for my kids and put them onto an SD card or USB stick. I then put them into the car video player. Some films play some don't. I take the SD card or USB stick and play them on my desktop no problem. So is there a specific format download that I have to use to play on an Android which I assume my car player is.
    Hopefully I've explained that correctly.

I have a similar problem with music downloaded via USB so I can play it in the car. Most work but a few don't.
I just assumed my cutting edge hi fi in the car does not like the Carpenters.

    PS Also a computer biff.

Your car DVD has video playing software - just like your PC. Some software doesn't recognize certain formats. Windows media format .wma for example isn't recognised by certain software.

To keep it simple, download a format of the film you want that is the most cross-platform possible and therefore recognized by most players. .mp4 is the video cousin of .mp3 music files (just has a video track too). The filesize is normally much smaller than other video formats and downloads/uploads more quickly.

You can also get programs to convert between video formats (VLC, for example). If you look around you can find instructions - it's all pretty straightforward.

Not to me it ain't. The error code I get on my media player says "Unsupported File Content". I throw that at Google and I'm informed I need to install 'Codec's'. I'm none the wiser. Albert I'm taking your advise and re-downloading the films in MP4 format. I'll let you know how I get on.

Have a read. It's a good player (software). Doesn't really help with your player, but good to load onto any PC's or iBooks whatever you have. It plays pretty much all audio and video digital formats.

It's like on a computer from UK there might not be Thai keyboard support and you have to load it on. Codec is like language. i.e the file is in french - your computer can't speak french - so you have to load the french speaking software (french codec) onto your computer/player.

I think that will help - as .mp4 is the most cross-platform file type and virtually all no-name brand cheap techie hardware will support that format first before anything else.

put the stick in your PC, locate the file, right click the file, click 'properties' and look at the file types that play on your player and those that don't...

here's some of my file types on my laptop

    MP4 File (.mp4)
    VLC media file (.mkv) (.mkv)
    AVI File (.avi)
    WMV File (.wmv)

Now vlc player on my PC will play them all, however your independent dvd player wont, so work out what files it plays and download those, or get some video converter software.

Here's where you will see the file types when you look on kat.ph...eg. .avi .mp4

Doesn't really help with your player,
It does because (if he can survive navigating through a couple of dialog boxes) he can convert his videos to whatever format his player accepts.

Pragmatic: Download VLC from VideoLAN - Official page for VLC media player, the Open Source video framework! You can read instructions for converting video formats at Use VLC Player to Convert Videos From One Format to Another - just chose the appropriate format to convert into.

Then you can convert it with this HandBrake: Open Source Video Transcoder I found it works better than paid converters but anyways the paid ones are more user friendly like this one but quailty not as good.

I think I have a virus on my media player in my car. Here's what I've done so far. I've cleaned the movies from my computer and re-downloaded them. I've cleaned off my memory device. Two in fact. I've transferred the films onto the clean memory cards. I've inserted them into media player. Once again nothing plays and I get 'Unsupported File Content" appearing. But in saying that I get a quick pop up first, to a website called 'yifi-torrents.com'. That last for about 5-6 seconds. i never noticed it before and considered it part of the download. It remains onscreen as being something I've downloaded and is in the list of films loaded. But as said I can't watch them.
If it is a virus then why didn't my PC pick it up on downloading? I definitely think this 'yifi-torrents.com' is my problem.

    Yify isn't a virus.
In the folders on the stick, do you only have the playable movie or have you left all the other packing files in there?

I formatted the sticks, so they're clean. I then put the movie back on to the stick. Put that back into the car and 'Yifi-torrents.com' ad appears as stated above. I just put on what is in my download file. May be I should clean all again and try again.

It's probably a picture left on the card that's trying to load by default.

    READ THE FUCKING MANUAL.

This is like having a tooth pulled.....

Your usb stick should have no folders and should have ONLY files ending with .mp4
No web pages or txt or nfo files, just the movie file itself.

Just read the manual and find out what formats it supports.

Then format your memory card and make sure the only movies you put on there match the format IN THE FUCKING MANUAL.

It's not rocket science man, are you a bit thick?

Sorry to all. I said I was not literate on computers in my opening post. I now see what you mean about packaging and I'm now deleting those parts after I download the movie before I put them on the stick.

Just like being back in school on here.

EDIT:- Just found the manual. USB/SD supports MP3/WMA/JPEG/MPEG video files.
