    Living room floor

So the planks are largely down but there is a lot more to it than that...

The space between planks is 'caulked' with mae daeng sawdust and each edge is then watered to ensure a good fit between the planks.

After that comes the sanding and sealing.

    En-suite bath

Personally I don't think it is in the right place - bit too 'open' for me but Princess Joy is a bit of a 'free spirit' so maybe I will be taking a shower only when we get in the place.

Pity ...'cos the bath was mine once...

We are getting the manufacturer to plumb and connect it when it is in the bathroom, because I really don't want to be electrocuted!

    Water heater

We went for this 100 litre model to supply around the house.

Should be big enough for a few showers and sinks, and my bath-time ablutions!

I believe this is a good and reliable brand...?

Excellent brand. What I have. Some cautions however. Depending in your water quality, lime/salt will build up in the boiler over time. Periodic checks and if needed flushing is is required or you will have probs.

Coincidentally, just did mine yesterday. About 6 months after last time. My water sucks even with outside filter I have so I have another small filter mounted next to water heater.

I have the same brand but they are in-line heaters, 8kw - trouble is they struggle to get the water hot enough for a comfortable shower up here in the "cold" North east during these "winter" months, how many KW is yours TD?

And...here we are again..another year almost complete.

At the start of 2018 - February 1st in fact...we started the piling for TD Towers. Now at year end we are almost finished (the house, not the piling!). A little time over run...isn't there always? !...but we are on the threshold...literally ...of completing stage 1 and 2. Khun Pot has already started stage 3

....and you have all been part of my 'lil build thread'. Meeting us. Calling us. Messaging us. commenting. Even just reading along with us. Thanks to friends old and new.

We wish everyone continued health, happiness and prosperity in the coming year. Wherever you are...raise a glass at midnight to all good things in 2019.

We wish you good luck and... Happy New Year!!

    TD & PJ

So.. 1st post of 2019... window and folding door frames arrive

There was a bit of delay in getting these - they are from the same sawmill as the flooring, and they too are Mae Daeng

Hopefully this dense wood will minimise any seasonal movement - we will see...

One man delivery, and no-one to assist - could be a long day...

That's the first one on the floor

Wow - these things are heavy!

In the swing of it now...

you notice - K.Pot still has not laid the wood flooring in the dining room. guess we will not be doing the final stage payment for a little longer.

    STAGE 3 - ground clearance

As I mentioned earlier, K. Pot has already started stage 3 -boundary wall.

Here is the ground clearance before he starts the footings work.

The ladies (who else!?) have already made a lot of cages

Taking out the mango trees and stump / roots

...it helps to have that excavator but even so, the job was almost too big for it to tackle

Once those trees were out he went to the bottom side to clear the overgrowth using the bucket and blade...

    Ground Clearance

Those two trees will be retained until I decide what to do with them, much to the disappointment of a couple of the workforce who planned to sell them

We had to wait for the OrBorTor engineer to call as we have to give up a small strip of land for drainage building in the future, if we are building a wall

Probably mentioned somewhere in the 2k+ posts above but is this the only wall you intend around property?

Hi Norton, welcome to your 1st post to the thread for 2019 and... Happy New Year to you yours!!

Yes... this will be the boundary wall, enclosing our original plot and the Mango-land plot we acquired , as one plot.

However, there will be some small walls between the house exterior and this boundary wall so that, for example, anyone entering by the front gate could not just walk directly into the pool area and house interior.

Everyone will be directed to the sala area first...

    Question time!

Anyone know what this bush is?

I was thinking of planting it OUTSIDE the boundary wall, as a 'deterrent' (along with my crocodile) as it seems to be very thorny

Any reason why a cannot plant this for this purpose?

    Thanks in advance

    The bush

    The thorns

Alternatively...any other / better suggestions for thorny plantings to deter attempts to climb the wall.
(I know the determined will always 'find a way', I/m thinking of all the others!)

No reason you can't use it. Bougainvillea makes a nice hedge. Grows well here. Perhaps inside and outside wall. Very colorful.

TD & PJ happy new year too you both.

Playing a bit of catch up, noticed the frames and see the light wood on the frames above. Now i don't know what the wood is but that usually denotes sap wood which you really don't want?

Thanks Norton...so that's what this is? I really had no idea. it was growing amongst a banana plantation next to a fishing lake we were using a couple of days ago

I think.. isn't that the bush that adds a splash of colour to so many Mediterranean countries?

    TD
Just be careful with the bougainvillea, while it looks very nice and there are quite a few different coloured flowers available it grows wild and needs to be well controlled.
The problem is because of the thorns it is difficult to prune. We have a little growing in a pot and it rips me every time I cut it back and then when I try to pick up the cuttings.
I once trod on a thorn and it when straight through the sole of my shoe into my foot and the tip broke off. I had to get it cut out.

Looks good, would make a prefect barrier but can be nasty to handle. I don't know about around your area but here it is growing in the middle of the highway in the drainage ditches so shouldn't be hard to get cuttings.
