Rest assured... i was 1,000,000% in control of the 'sanitaryware'!!! Full-sized wc's throughout, a full-sized whirlpool bath and full sized showers!!
Actually, shes not a squat-toilet fan either and there was absolutely no argument on the selections. phew!
She has got long hair so that might be a problem. we have the grease traps in place... might be lucky? (grease and hair trap) but they will need cleaning out more often probably.
Lol - that could be useful later on... hmmmm.... and I did just see another photo of the tiles after the land office engineer paid a 'progress' visit, and ..... no ... still dont like them!
I notice he only took one photo, whereas multi shots of everything else. perhaps the tiles broke the camera....
Hey DM... thanks! yeah I have surpassed my expectations and I am very happy so far. its a combination of my initial idea, advice from this forum and K.Pots ability to translate all of that into what we see before us
Still some way to go but we have almost 'got there'
...ans when i finally hang my boots up, I am sure I will be grinning every day

Problem with choosing good wood doors using a photo carries risk. Risk being, poor inlaid work and not properly dried wood. Result will be door warpage and inlaid shrinkage within a few years. This is especially a prob on exterior doors. Don't go cheap on these.
Suggest you ask if they have recommendation at the place you got your flooring.
Interior doors like you find at global house or homepro should be ok.

"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect,"
Thanks Norton...
The interior door is already decided and will look something like this, picking up on the 'wood' detailing outside
...with the outside doors though, there is more doubt, especially from me.
the door you see in the shop is actually the finished door and not the price advertised. that price is for the raw door, which then needs 'finishing' (ie the rough edges sanded down) and painting/ staining. that can add 1500-2000 to the price. then the delivery on top unless you are collecting.
at least with that option you can see the quality of the product.
Net-ordered is the great unknown....
Maybe we can see what that saw mill could produce.
p.s. how the £^"$^ did you know my thread would move over to 'famous threads'!!?
Are you holding a promotion button or something?
....or are you the secret owner of TD!!??
either way... good guess/ decision!!
With regards to the thread moving to 'Famous Threads... I am overwhelmed and a little humbled that my build story is up there with those truly great and interesting reads.
When we set out on this adventure it was to 'tell the tale' and hopefully help a few coming behind me.
Thanks to the input from everyone who stopped by and commented, or chipped in, or advised... our story has grown into what it is today.
You really have made all the difference
Once again, I thank you all ans I hope i can live up to this new status until the very end.
cheers!
TD And PJ
I had nothing to do with it but well deserved TD n PJ.![]()
Good advice from Norts, don't skimp, not that you would. Get the end grain properly sealed, top and bottom don't show and thats where corners can get cut. Make sure they are properly dry before sealing so careful to also do it before rainy season but you'll be finished before then
Thank goodness...shes looking at the right style of door now... lol i dont want to break her heart if the choice is not so good.
yes NPT.... essential to get it all sealed.
if it turns out that I cannot be sure what we are getting I will simply put it off til December when i am back there..
There is a fair bit of money in those external doors - certainly more than K.Pots budget, so here's another 'over' to be paid for.
Again though - definitely best to pay a bit more for the door you want...
Quick update...
PJ has chosen the doors she wants...and I am 'OK' with them!!
Meanwhile, K.Pot has ordered the internal doors (I already showed a photo of that design) which we are all agreed on.
Things going a little slower just at the moment as he has a big push on for one of his other projects.
As I mentioned previously, I am 'OK' with that slight delay as it helps my finances which are a bit stretched!!
He's got the crew in finishing the ceilings, so pictures to follow for that.
The electrician is standing by to fit the AC... all units already on the ploy awaiting installation
Once the ceiling finished, the remaining crew will turn to paining the internal walls.
He also has the external walls to paint too.
OK so that's the work ahead... photos will follow as soon as he is on with it.
cheers all!!
ps..only 35 days til Christmas!
TD
You must remember the 80/20 rule and the last finishing touches are what take the time.
When we built we sacked our builder because he was sending all his workers to other jobs and ours was not getting done.
I think the reason was because he needed the money and the other projects were at the early stages where he would get paid more quickly than on our job.
In our case we wanted to move in and he had already gone 2 months over his original completion date.
I think you will be happy in the end that you are not pressed for time and therefore not putting pressure on your builder which hopefully translates to a much better final job done.
Just an aside, when I was looking at other "famous builds" now that yours in that illustrious area I when back and had a look at a thread called "house that Jan Built" anyway that's what I think it was called. have you had a look at it as she/they built a house not too dissimilar to yours and they use actual wood of their first floor (not ground floor) and it is almost exactly like what you have achieved with yours by not using wood.
Cheers
Ho ootai... i have read that one a couple of times including touching on it about a week ago. its the one that ends a little sadly, I think (for the couple involved)?
Funnily enough, waaaaaay back at the start, before the start even..I looked through those house plans, including that one. That, and other sources plus my ow ideas formed th basis for what you will be seeing at TD towers.
We have so far only built stage 1 and 2... stage 3, the other wing on the right will follow in the new year! That will take the floor plan up to around 500m2
You are right about what happens at the end and I expected it. Wwe are not rushing to be in by Christmas or anything so no need to pressurise him. He's aware of that btw so its a mutual agreement
He will be back to finish it because of the way the contract is staged. Those stages basically give him the running costs of the build and it is only after 6 weeks AFTER he finishes that we pay him the final payment following snagging etc.
That payment is the bulk of his profit.
At last!!!
Pictures have come and something to report!!
Main stair progress...
Lower handrail now in place, just waiting for the painter to get back on this job.
Meanwhile, the banister fitted and secured, awaiting painter again. also the ceiling work completed and needing those paint brushes...
Like tge ceilings. Going to look fantastic.
Floor clean up
Here is the lower hall
after a bit more cleaning
yep... it all seems to be lining up....
