That's a nice photo of a real ass hole. Will never miss him.

He died in a Nato strike, according to some reports. Others say not.
He was trying to flee to the border though. It seems.
More details will emerge, early days, and I've learnt not to trust early reports.
An insane man- he could have saved a lot of lives, including his own, by reading the obvious writing on the wall.

For somebody bombed by a crusader coalition airstrike he is remarkably in one piece. I note the medical aid being administered to him.

The way he looks when captured makes it likely he died of his injuries and was not killed later.

I would say he wanted to stay and fight, but they found him hiding in a culvert after NATO stopped him trying to scarper.

    How the mighty have fallen.

He deserved it, the fucking horrible old bastard.

And I hope the son stays alive long enough to face trial, too.

Shot him in both legs, dragged him alive through the streets, shot him in the stomach, then one in the side of the head.

Libya will now fragment back into the tirbal feuds, just as before Gaddafi came along, then another dictator or islamist fundementalist will grab power.

Bye to the old boss hello to the new boss. same same

He has killed many over his time including the Lockerby PAm Am jet. But as LB said this war is no more over than the Iraq war. Just entering another phase. A lot of factions have a lot of guns and the government does not have apolice force or army to back it up.

Easy meat... I want to see some of the tough nuts go down... Assad... Mugabe... Nguema of Eq. Guinea, Al-Bashir of Sudan, Afewerki of Eritrea, Ayatollah Khamenei, King Abdullah, King Mswati, Burdymuhammedow of Turkmenistan, then the real tough nuts Kim Jong-Il, Hu Jintao, Than Shwe. Compared to them, Ghaddafi was a pushover.

THE Mad Dog dictator is dead.
Colonel Muammar Gaddafi was today dragged from a storm drain clutching a golden pistol and shot dead, bringing to an end 42 years of tyranny.
Rebel forces hunted him down as he tried to flee his hometown of Sirte in a convoy of jeeps.
A French airstrike halted the jeeps but Gaddafi managed to crawl away and hide inside a storm drain.

Rebel soldier Mohammed al-Bibi discovered Gaddafi hiding in a large concrete pipe. He told reporters that the dictator had pleaded: "Don't shoot, don't shoot."
Video footage shows Gaddafi's last moments before he was killed. He is surrounded by soldiers, slumped on the back of a pickup truck, wounded and covered in blood and dirt.

He appears just about able to stand as the soldiers pull him off the vehicle, before parading him through the streets in front of a baying mob.
Desperate to save his life, he asks one rebel: "What did I ever do to you?"

The soldiers ignore his pleas and throw him into another truck and take him away to be executed.
One Libyan fighter claimed Gaddafi was shot in the lower body with a 9mm gun.
He said he struck him with his shoe - an insult in the Arab world.
Mohammed Shaban, who said he took part in Gaddafi's capture, said the 69-year-old who ruled Libya for four decades had been cornered in the sewage pipe.
"His blood is on my shirt. I'll never wash it," he said.
A video showing Gaddafi's dead body spread like wild fire before his death was officially announced.
The corpse is dressed in khaki blood oozes from the face and neck.
National Transitional Council (NTC) field commander Mohammed Leith said Gaddafi was in a jeep when rebels opened fire on it".
"He got out and tried to flee, taking shelter in a sewage pipe."
NTC fighters "opened fire again and he came out carrying a Kalashnikov (assault rifle) in one hand and a pistol in the other", he said.
Gaddafi "looked left and right and asked what was happening. Rebels opened fire again, wounding his leg and shoulder. He died after that".
Libyan Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril confirmed Gaddafi was dead early this morning.

"We have been waiting for this moment for a long time," he said, adding that Gaddafi's eldest son, Saif, had been shot in the leg.
It is believed Gaddafi will be given a secret burial.
US President Barack Obama said Gaddafi's death marked the end of a "long and painful chapter" for the people of Libya.
Speaking at the White House, Mr Obama said Libyans "now have the opportunity to determine their own destiny in a new and democratic Libya".
He added: "The rule of an iron fist inevitably comes to an end."
British Prime Minister David Cameron said Gaddafi's death was an occasion to remember his victims, while hailing it as a chance for a "democratic future" for Libya.
"I think today is a day to remember all of Colonel Gaddafi's victims", including those who died in the 1988 bombing of a Pan Am jet over the Scottish town of Lockerbie, he said.
UN chief Ban Ki-moon said Gaddafi's death ushered in a "historic transition" for Libya.
"The road ahead for Libya and its people will be difficult and full of challenges. Now is the time for all Libyans to come together," he said.
News that Gaddafi was dead sparked scenes of wild joy among the ranks of new regime fighters who crushed his final bastion of support.
"We did it! We did it!" chanted the fighters overcome with emotion, exchanging well-wishes, hugs and handshakes against a backdrop of intense celebratory gunfire.
"We finished Gaddafi and his people," said fighter Ali Urfulli.
"We have taken revenge. Let him go to hell."
"We announce to the world that Gaddafi has been killed at the hands of the revolution," NTC Abdel Hafez Ghoga said, the first high ranking official of the new regime to confirm the news.
"It is an historic moment. It is the end of tyranny and dictatorship. Gaddafi has met his fate," he said after earlier reports that Gaddafi was hurt and captured fuelled speculation the veteran leader died fighting as he once promised.
Fighters flashed the V for victory sign, yelled "Allahu Akbar" (God is greatest) and chanted revolutionary slogans at the news of the strongman's demise moments after the city came under their full control.

"Hold your head high ... We are Libyans," they chanted waving the red, black and green flag adopted in February as symbol of the revolution against Gaddafi, who ruled Libya with an iron fist for almost 42 years.
Former rebels unleashed a deafening salvo of machine gun and rocket fire after overruning the final pockets of resistance in Sirte, where diehard loyalists fought and former regime officials hid.
"I am happy we have got revenge for our people who suffered for all these years and for those who were killed in the revolution," fighter Talar al-Kashmi said.
"Gaddafi is finished," he said as black smoke billowed from the city centre.
Men fell to their knees and kissed the ground at the news of the Gaddafi's death while others came together in prayer at the main intersections celebrating the end of an almost two-month offensive on Sirte.
"Sirte is free. The whole of Libya is free" said field commander Khaled Ballam of the February 17 brigade, a leading fighting unit of the east, which fought alongside the west's hardened fighters of Misrata, in the final assault.
"The country is now under the control of Mustafa Abdel Jalil," he said in reference to NTC leader, who was an early defector of Gaddafi's regime.
Ballam said his troops, alongside Misrata fighters, stormed the final pockets of resistance in a dawn assault that encountered minimal resistance as the majority of Gaddafi's fighters decided to flee rather than fight.
"They had no other option: The game is over," he said of the final hour.
The roar of gunfire - once a sign of fierce combats - continued unabated after the fall of Sirte was officially declared while car speakers blared the new regime's national anthem and revolutionary songs.
Loudspeaker calls for a halt to the out of hand shooting fell on deaf ears.
"Every inch of the city is liberated," said fighter Abdul Matlub Saleh. "The gunfire that you are hearing is all celebration."

I think the real plan by the Pentagon is to create safe havens for Islamic fundamentalists in those countries, so they are busy killing each other to take power while the west can steal their oil quietly. Couldn't happen under a stable regime like Saddam and Qaddafi.
