Pregnant woman killed by one of her pitbulls

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A pregnant San Francisco area woman was killed by one of her pit bulls,
her mauled body found by her husband, police said on Friday.

The 32-year-old woman was pronounced dead on Thursday afternoon at the couple's home in the
seaside village of Pacifica, south of San Francisco, Pacifica Police Capt. Dave Bertini said. Authorities
withheld the names of the victim and her husband.Bertini said the woman's husband told police he
came home from work at around noon on Thursday to find one of the couple's pit bulls standing,
bloodied, over his wife's mauled body.

First responders to the scene found the woman unresponsive in a front room of the home with
massive trauma to her upper body, Bertini said.A second pit bull was found cowering in the corner.
Bertini said the man told authorities that the attacking dog, a two-year-old male named Gunner,
was confined in a back room. But when the dog managed to escape and enter the front yard,
officers shot it three times, Bertini said. Both pets were taken to Peninsula Humane Society,
which performs animal control services for San Mateo County under contract.

The society's spokesperson Scott Delucchi said a necropsy scheduled for Friday would seek to
retrieve the bullets as well as examine stomach contents and tissue samples to establish whether
the dog was correctly implicated in the attack. Tissue samples will be taken from the second dog
to determine if it could be returned to the victim's husband.

"This person has lost everything; this dog is all he has left," Delucchi said. "Right now we are
assuming that one dog was involved and one was not. We investigate hundreds of dog attacks
every year but I've never seen anything like this in 13 years," Delucchi said.

I just figured I'd post this because this is so rare and can you believe that a pitbull did this! I'm shocked!


There are several things we can take from this:

This breed (and a few others) is unpredictable
The owners of this breed generally tend to be abusive people.
The owners of this breed generally are stupid people.
Both the dog and the owner are generally aggressive



Most people won't read this story because it happens every fucking week nowadays. The good thing about this is if it is the owners who are abusive we are losing them on a regular basis.

I respect all breeds of dogs but would never own a dog that has been breed for fighting, especially with children around.

These dogs should be running free on the plains of Africa in the wild where they belong.

I had to get rid of an aggressive golden retriever that kept on biting people and they must be (normally) the best family friendly dog on the planet.

can,t say i agree with this statement mate..i,m a dog person, i,m 51 and i worked it out i,ve had 38 years of dog ownership, my dogs are melded and trained into the family unit, to protect and be loved, i always ensure my daughter was with me when we had to let go our mates, death is part of owning a dog..in saying all that, one of me favourites was old GERTRUDE, the nastiest piece of bully cross you would come across, had that dog 17 years and 3 months, i coud have bought a bloody new car with fines i paid for that bloody dog biteing people..stupid people, but that is another story, even though this bully cross was very protective, she loved kids and all her new her were quite comfortable in the fact that the kids were safe from preditors whilst in her company, be it 2 legged or bloody snakes..on the other hand , i tried my hand at a pitbull, i tried for 2 years with that dog..i,m beg to differ the nature of the breed is far too aggressive for my comfort around kids, as an adult i would be worried..i gave the dog to a mate, he eventually put her down to..sad that..
anyway i agree, generally its the dog owner and their lack of understanding the dogs nature..pitbulls are whole different world, my dog at the moment in ozzie comes in at 56 kg. bull arab cross brindle bitch, i have a 2 year old grand daughter, and like my daughter, these 2 are inseparable, , RORY can dam near ride that dog, and for MISS GYPSY, the little people is an endless supply of yummy dog licks and play mate..

Agreed...i have had staffs for most of my life and you want get any better dogs with kids..did have a Pitbull here in Thailand couldn't do nothing with him fcking killing machine if he seen any other dog he would want to fight it ..some blame the owner and not the dog..i did not bring this pitbull up any different than all my other dogs..think they all have a nasty streak in them and when some one pulls there trigger you can look out..!!!

I agree about staffordshire and english bull terriers being good with kids, but I wouldnt go out and buy one if I had a baby in the house, and vice versa, they can get jealous of the baby getting all the attention

My female pug even gets all "Itchar" when my wife dots on my young daughter.

Not that she could bite anyone, probably have a heart attack doing so but she does get jealous and makes everyone aware of the fact.

I don't think all pitbulls are bad dogs, but you can't argue with the vicious attack and death rate associated with the breed.

These are stats taken over a 17 year period- the numbers represent five columns, Column 1 is Breed Attacks doing Bodily Harm, #2 is Child Victims, #3 is Adult Victims, #4 is Deaths and #5 is Maimings (these are the serious attacks that required hospitalization and police reports- there will of course have been many unreported bites and attacks, and it's possible that some smaller breeds actually bite more often but cause less harm).

There is an American program, "the dog whisperer" that should be compulsory viewing for dog owners. Despite its some what "over" classic american style, it is pretty much spot on. In almost every single case, it is the owner whose behaviour is leading to the dogs misbehaviour. One of the take home messages is that dogs should NEVER be dominant in a household - and this especially concerns kids. Even kids need to be seen by the dog as a "pack leader".

To many people "humanize" their dogs. They are not 'small human", but animals that largely go by instinct. In any "pack" -and this means in any setting such as a family - there must be a leader (or leaders) and if there are not - watch out - because the dog WILL take that role.

If your dog is constantly biting people, it means that the dog does not see you as the leader, and as you are not providing protection for the pack - it does.

Agreed...i have had staffs for most of my life and you want get any better dogs with kids..did have a Pitbull here in Thailand couldn't do nothing with him fcking killing machine if he seen any other dog he would want to fight it ..some blame the owner and not the dog..i did not bring this pitbull up any different than all my other dogs..think they all have a nasty streak in them and when some one pulls there trigger you can look out..!!!

My parents have had a couple of English Bulls, and more friendly (with humans) dog you couldn't wish for.
Problem with Pitbulls seems to be that there is no pedigree requirement (?), and they are a dog that just seems to appeal to the criminal type.

My brothers beloved American bull terrier, Boxhead[*], was humanely put down last week. Cancer. A desexed female, Boxhead would not harm a hair on your head. It was sad news for the sabang family, we loved that dog.
* real name Kelly, but everyone called her Boxhead- she had a head like a box, innit?

It is understandable when you hear about an incident of this nature to blame the breed- although it is closer to the mark to blame the owner. Look further however, and you will find the aggressive pitbulls are male, and generally not desexed. And they are brought up to be aggressive by the sort of scumbags you describe.

The Amerkin bull terrier aka pitbull is merely a cross between the English and Staffordshire bull terrier.
The term 'pitbull' came about because of dogfighting of course. Genetically, pitbulls bred with this in mind may differ some from the traditional breed, but not much.

Fact is that something can trigger these normally placid family dogs and the result is more often then not horrible.

As pointed out by another member maybe the smell coming from the poor pregnant deceased lady may have been the trigger, jealousy with regard to a new family member or just the dog following it's inbred instincts to attack and kill can mean death for some.

I would never leave my children alone with a pitbull terrier no matter how placid and loving the owner claims the dog is.

And I feel the owner is always watching his /her if they are even remotely aware of the dog's breed history.

Basically, because of the nefarious uses so many are put to, I think that Pitbulls should only be sold desexed- unless you gain a breeding license, which would also involve proof of good character. Of course, in a country where the government can not agree on anything, and people have the right to own unlicensed and untraceable armouries, this may be impossible to implement. You would definitely see the amount of incidents come down though.

very true especially in the case of strong willed dogs like bull terriers and pitbulls.
they need a strong hand or they will take over.
i have owned bull terriers all my life. my friends think that they are stupid, simply because they will not readily respond to commands-
truth is they can actually work out if you are serious or not, and will try their luck unless they are properly controlled.

worst dog i ever owned was a spaniel... now that thing was really stupid, but was very protective of me.
i had to get rid of her because she would go for the kids if they came near me.
difference is that if she had attacked anybody, the damage would probably have been minimal, whereas a bull terrier or pitbull can easily kill if it sets it's mind to it.

still, i can't argue with the statistics previously posted.
looked for bull terriers and staffies in there, but they seem to have been left out.
