The thought of various politicians and other bods around the world doing their nut right now is hugely satisfying.

In a democracy the government is the servant of the people. I'm sure that if somebody came to any of us with evidence that a servant of ours was a liar, a cheat, a thief, and a murderer we'd be grateful for the information and act accordingly, not start screaming about the servant's right to privacy or about how the informant was a criminal for bringing us that evidence.
    Glad you agree Bob.

Yes the government is the servant of the people and if you are not happy with their performance you fire them at the ballot box, this is the way democracy works, so the Governments we have, are chosen by a majority to handle things on our behalf, Assange is chosen by no one, Assanges way of doing things have not been able to collect a political majority at present in any single country, in protest he spits his dummy, breaks the rules and makes his own, that has nothing to do with democracy.

In very crude comparison there is not much principal difference in an Army representing only their own minority interest, taking over control because they don't like the way things are run.

It's ok to blow the "Whistle" but you do that by either going to the Authorities who's responsibility it is to oversee the administrations actions, or you go to your politicians who support your viewpoints and let them deal with it in a responsible manner.

Most people are well aware our Governments necessarily keep secrets, and we have accepted that at the box, should the opinions on this change and "Pirate bay" or what they call themselves come into power by a majority vote then we will have to accept that.

As is Assange will just have to take his chances since he has gone of the reservation.

Maybe multicolour Assange posters will be as popular as the nice Che posters in a few years by the revolutionary-light crowd. Che also had a lot of supporters worldwide....... just not enough.

Yes the government is the servant of the people and if you are not happy with their performance you fire them at the ballot box,
If the government's performance is a secret, if what they really do turns out to be the opposite of what they claim to do, if they lie to us, classify the truth, and make it illegal to access that truth then how on earth are we supposed to be able to make informed decisions on the government's performance?

If you really did agree with what I said then you should be glad that Assage exposed the cesspool behind the smiling faces, not blindly trusting in the good faith of people who have now clearly been shown to hold people like you and me, and most everybody else in the world, in utter contempt.

What has been exposed in these cables so far are not big military secrets or information that will prove of immense value to terrorists. What has been exposed is a world of corrupt, arrogant liars who will do anything for power and wealth, you may find people like that admirable but I find them repulsive. I'm happy that the release of these cables has finally shown incontrovertible proof of what so many have been saying for so many years.

that's exactly the core of the matter here, and yet the sheep just want to be happy and believe in the fairy tales. They are simply afraid of the truth, and they should be.

Palin says WikiLeaks supporters attacked her site
    December 08, 2010 8:29 PM

JUNEAU, Alaska Sarah Palin says her political action committee's website came under cyberattack from supporters of Wikileaks and its founder, Julian Assange.

The former Alaska governor told ABC News it's an example of what happens "when you exercise the First Amendment and speak against his sick, un-American espionage efforts."

Palin last week called Assange "an anti-American operative with blood on his hands." She questioned why he wasn't "pursued with the same urgency we pursue al-Qaida and Taliban leaders."

An aide to Palin's SarahPAC says staff acted quickly to protect the website.

Hackers acting under the label "Operation Payback" claimed responsibility for problems Wednesday at the websites for MasterCard and Visa, which stopped processing donations to Wikileaks after it released secret U.S. diplomatic cables.

So is this the 9-11 of cyber space? Warning of new cyber terrorism? Is this also the excuse the governments have been looking for to restrict internet and free speech?

WikiLeaks followers close Swedish government site: report
    Dec 9, 2010

STOCKHOLM: Hackers forced the Swedish government's website offline for several hours on Thursday in a cyber attack in support of WikiLeaks and its founder Julian Assange, a report said.

The Aftonbladet daily said the government's official website, Regeringen och Regeringskansliet , was offline for a few hours overnight to Thursday, publishing a screen shot which showed the server could not be reached. The site was working normally again later in the day.

Government spokeswoman Mari Ternbo told AFP the government did not comment security matters and could not confirm the cyber attack had taken place.

Assange, a 39-year-old Australian, is being detained in London pending a hearing on extradition to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning over rape allegations.

PayPal has admitted that its decision to pull the plug on donations services to WikiLeaks was taken after intervention from the US State Department.

Speaking at the Le Web conference in Paris, the company’s vice president of platform Osama Bedier announced that the decision to freeze the WikiLeaks account on 4 December had been influenced by a letter from the State Department claiming that the whistle-blowing site was engaged in illegal activities.

    Jail

A group, linked with the imageboard 4chan, has undertaken distributed denial-of-service attacks against Paypal, Swiss bank Post Finance and other sites who refused their services to whistleblowing site Wikileaks.

    .
A little jailtime is in order for these criminals.
