Search fails to find Irish tourist at Bryon Bay

AN AIR and land search has failed to find an Irish tourist who did not return from a walk he took on the far north NSW coast.

Niall McDonough, 30, was last seen by his girlfriend at their Bryon Bay youth hostel about 9pm (AEST) yesterday after he left to go for a walk.

About 7am today some of his belongings were found on a chair near the Cape Bryon Lighthouse.

Police searched the headland and surrounding waterways, with the help of a surf rescue team and helicopter. The search was called off when it became dark.

Mr McDonough is 170cm tall, of medium build and has ginger hair.

He was last seen wearing grey jeans, runners and no shirt.

Anyone who might have seen Mr McDonough is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
