Dan, it doesn't matter how much clever rhetoric you spill out, it just don't believe it. And what i have posted may turn out to be wrong, but for now i believe it.

And lets face it. If these really are desperate times, the governments aren't really doing to much about it are they? Raising taxes seems to be their goal rather than grinding some things to a holt. I guess finances outweight the need for protecting life.

Dr. Shariv, a prolific researcher who has made a name for himself assessing the movements of two-billion-year-old meteorites, no longer accepts this logic, or subscribes to these views. He has recanted: "Like many others, I was personally sure that CO2 is the bad culprit in the story of global warming. But after carefully digging into the evidence, I realized that things are far more complicated than the story sold to us by many climate scientists or the stories regurgitated by the media.

"In fact, there is much more than meets the eye."

Dr. Shariv's digging led him to the surprising discovery that there is no concrete evidence -- only speculation -- that man-made greenhouse gases cause global warming. Even research from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change-- the United Nations agency that heads the worldwide effort to combat global warming -- is bereft of anything here inspiring confidence. In fact, according to the IPCC's own findings, man's role is so uncertain that there is a strong possibility that we have been cooling, not warming, the Earth. Unfortunately, our tools are too crude to reveal what man's effect has been in the past, let alone predict how much warming or cooling we might cause in the future.

All we have on which to pin the blame on greenhouse gases, says Dr. Shaviv, is "incriminating circumstantial evidence," which explains why climate scientists speak in terms of finding "evidence of fingerprints." Circumstantial evidence might be a fine basis on which to justify reducing greenhouse gases, he adds, "without other 'suspects.' " However, Dr. Shaviv not only believes there are credible "other suspects," he believes that at least one provides a superior explanation for the 20th century's warming.

"Solar activity can explain a large part of the 20th-century global warming," he states, particularly because of the evidence that has been accumulating over the past decade of the strong relationship that cosmic- ray flux has on our atmosphere. So much evidence has by now been amassed, in fact, that "it is unlikely that [the solar climate link] does not exist."

That and the fact that it is warmer here than has been in years before, which in turn means more water evaporation, which goes into the atmos. which in turn makes it hotter as water in the air is what tends to hold heat in when mixed with CO2,, and then the cycle continues,,

But it's not Dan that is using rhetoric (emotive language) to state his case.
It is John Coleman that is doing just that. Dan has simply pointed you in the direction of some perfectly sound scientific studies that you should be aware of, such as those commissioned by the IPCC and carried out by scientists that are experts in their fields, the findings are impartial and factual.

Look at John Colemans claims and then try and find the science behind them, there is none. Look at John Colemans supporters and the websites that promote his opinions, they are the very same 'big brother' corporations that you despise.

John Coleman may have founded the weather channel, but he has since been ousted from that company and his association is no longer welcome there as his reputation is so farcical.

It's hard to find the good dirt on this guy, because the net is so swamped with rightwing blogs pushing his propaganda, the same blogs that churn out the 'green issues mean taxes' line, but dig around and follow the trail and you'll see that you are being taken in.

Better yet look at the view from the other end of the telescope and check out the IPCC reports and the list of scientists that have contributed.

Blackgang, with all due respect, John Coleman is old news, Al Gore is old news.
The debate has moved on regarding global warming away from the fearmongers and detractors and onto implementing programmes to combat the man made effects, based on scientific fact.

This argument is just sooooo last year.

Well i just watched the first one.. emotive language from the beginning... "should we blame this child..?" "the IPCC wants to put mankind on trial.."

It is government and industry that are being brought to task, so why start with such rhetorical mumbo jumbo if they want to make a good case?

    Dr David Legates, the central protagonist in this documentry;

He is best known for his contrarian opinion on the causes and effects of global warming. Legates opposes the consensus scientific opinion on climate change, and was a signer of the Oregon petition,

"The Union of Concerned Scientists published a study listing Legates among several scientists it described as "familiar spokespeople fromExxonMobil-funded organizations" that have regularly taken stands or sponsored reports questioning the science behind climate change warnings."[

Professor Legates has acknowledged that humans have a direct impact on the environment,

In February 2007, Delaware governor Ruth Ann Minner wote a letter to Legates stating "Your views on climate change, as I understand them, are not aligned with those of my administration,". The letter directed Legates to stop using his title as state climatologist of Delaware in his public statements related to climate change

David Legates - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dr Legates' rebuttal to Dr. MacCracken's declaration. Legates is a known climate skeptic who has been associated with several right wing institutions paid by ExxonMobil.

Declaration of Dr. David Legates | Greenpeace USA

It then states that the IPCC report based it's findings on one set of data only, that of doubling CO2, that's simply not true as the IPCC report was an accumulation of data from all participating countries looking at many aspects of climate change, human impact and pollution in their own enviroment.

The NordGrip data is interesting as it shows we are living in an interglacial period, but it doesn't discredit the IPCC in any way regarding our recent period and the effects of man made pollution.

The documentary says "recent warming may be a consequence of leaving the recent mini ice age.."

    may be not is.

That's about enough for me, I don't see them offering any hard scientific data on mans effects on the climate, which is after all the issue at hand.
The emotive opening and the use of a climatologist sponsered by Exxon, shows that this is not an informed, impartial or balanced documentary.

It is opinion and all opinions are welcome in a debate, but I'm not convinced by the methods or the motivation of the documnetary makers in this case.

Cheers anyway. It's always better to have both sides of the argument.

    There's a conspiracy alright:
Investigators: NASA Officials ‘Mischaracterized’ and Limited Flow of Findings on Climate - Dot Earth Blog - NYTimes.com

Two years after James E. Hansen, the leading climate scientist at NASA, and other agency employees described a pattern of distortion and suppression of climate science by political appointees, the agency’s inspector general has concluded that such activities occurred and were “inconsistent” with the law that established the space program 50 years ago.

They're all riding the UN gravy train, not exactly impartial. And their facts are based on computer modeling, it'll chuck out whatever answer you want depending on what info you put in.

Here's a surprise — it looks like Al Gore is backing off from one of the lies that constitute his lucrative global warming hype fests.
Former Vice President Al Gore is removing a dramatic slide in his global warming presentation. The New York Times reports Gore used a graph from a disaster research center in Brussels to illustrate that human-driven climate change is, "creating weather-related disasters that are completely unprecedented."

But don't expect him to trim out the rest of the documented lies. That would leave him with no props, and nothing to say as he huffs and puffs and waves his arms.

Today, as for the past 15 years, he’s chalked up another weathercast like it’s his job, because it is. This, he tells me, is the best time of his career.
Which seems odd, because in the past few years, he’s admittedly become mad as hell. Coleman is angry because he believes we have been brainwashed into thinking we’re ruining our own planet. He wants to let us off the hook, and give us some good news for a change, because, you see, John Coleman says that climate change is a scam

    no sun spots again

Doomsday 'looming' as Sun goes blank sparking ice age fears

DOOMSDAY could be looming as planet earth faces an ice age after the Sun went blank for the second time in less than month.

Astonishing images from NASA reveal no visible sunspots are currently visible on its surface.
This has caused the star to go into "cue call" mode having entered its quietest period for more than a century, Vencore Weather claims.
Decreased activity is not unusual as solar activity changes the volatile star's surface in 11-year cycles, astronomers say.
But researchers are warning this current cycle could have a devastating impact on Earth's atmosphere, possibly ushering in a second ice age, similar to the one which began in 1645.

Paul Dorian of Vencore Weather says the blank Sun is a sign that the next solar minimum is approaching.
He said: "At first, the blankness will stretch for just a few days at a time, then it’ll continue for weeks at a time, and finally it should last for months at a time when the sunspot cycle reaches its nadir.
"The next solar minimum phase is expected to take place around 2019 or 2020."
The Sun went completely spotless on June 4 with activity remaining low for several days.
It came after another period of low activity in February when NASA images showed the sun in "cueball mode"

CE AGE: The sun is in its quietest period for more than a century

Now experts predict the low solar activity could pave the way for a "Maunder minimum" phase, where solar flares are non-existent, causing temperatures to plummet.
Last year a Northumbria University study predicted a sharp decline in solar activity between 2020 and 2050.
Professor Valentina Zharkova, who conducted the research, said: "I am absolutely confident in our research.
"It has good mathematical background and reliable data, which has been handled correctly.
"In fact, our results can be repeated by any researchers with the similar data available in many solar observatories, so they can derive their own evidence of upcoming Maunder Minimum in solar magnetic field and activity."
