A Thai Airways Boeing 747-400, registration HS-TGO performing flight TG-944 from Bangkok (Thailand) to Rome Fiumicino (Italy), departed Bangkok's runway 19L and landed on Rome's runway 16R about 10.5 hours later. A main tyre was found burst with tire debris having impacted the airframe causing additional damage.

Good. With all this controversy surrounding Thai Airways, another couple of years without earning miles for the gold card renewal looks good

I reckon anyone that has been foolish enough to fly with Thai Airways, as to have gained gold card status and subsequent flyer miles, deserve what they get....

Their safety record is on a level with most major airlines. They're not exactly falling out of the sky.

Seems you are confused this thread is about Airline News the post is about Airline news.
If you were hoping to read a post about multiple deaths lets hope its a long time before we see a post about an aircraft accident where lives are lost.

No I think he's simply saying that there is absolutely nothing unusual about burst tyres on an airliner, and it's probably not worth posting.

I mean the F1 thread could be filled with "news" about punctures for example.

^As there is a lot of news about safety issues with Thai carriers just a post to question if safety checks are being carried out correctly.
But you are correct plenty of incidence everyday involving airlines all over the world but most of those airlines aren't looking at possible bans from flying internationally.

As for F1 a car overtaking outside the pit lane makes headline news these days.

Stratolaunch: The world's largest plane is about to take flight with test flights planned for 2016

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen has unveiled his latest project: the Stratolaunch, a gigantic plane built around two 747s. According to Allen, construction began on the giant plane in 2011, and it's now nearing testing stage, with the first test flights planned for 2016.

Dwarfing even the Airbus A380, the world’s largest passenger plane, Stratolaunch looks more like a gargantuan air catamaran than a regular aeroplane.

Its wingspan measures 385 feet. By comparison, the Airbus comes in at 260 feet wide.

Kevin Mickey, president of Scaled Composites, the company building the plane, told US TV station KGET that standing on an American football field, the plane’s wingtips would “extend beyond the goalposts by about 15 feet on each side”.

It’s unlikely to become the future of commercial air travel, however. Stratolaunch will need roughly 12,000 feet of runway in order to take off, far more than regular planes which get by with just 7-8,000 feet.

But this isn’t the main goal for the plane. Instead, Stratolaunch’s developers are hoping it will be used to perform air launches of satellite-carrying rockets, to make space travel more affordable.

Yes, of course - making future space travel much more affordable.

Low cost airlines told to declare available seats in promotion campaigns

All budget airlines must declare the total number of their seats and tell customers how many seats are left while they are booking for seats in the airlines' promotion campaigns.

This requirement was disclosed by the permanent secretary for Transport Mrs Soithip Trisuddhi after chairing a meeting with low cost airlines to fix the airfares.

She said that from October last year to June this year, the ministry received 50 complaints from customers, breaking down to refund for flight delays, lost property, and exaggeration of advertisements particularly in promotion campaign which the ministry is monitoring closely to take action with them.

She said presently airfare of low cost airline was capped at 13 baht per kilometre but the airlines could dump airfare in their competition because it would benefit customers.

But she noted that some budget airlines had dumped airfares to cut throat prices which discourage other operators to compete.

This prompted the ministry to monitor their promotion campaign closely as the ministry received numerous complaints from customers booking for seats in the airlines’ promotion campaign that they could hardly get the seats with replies that no more seats were left.

She said further that she has now ordered the Civil Aviation Department to reach understanding with all low cost airlines that they must launch promotion campaign at the same standard which mean they must disclose the number of seats in their promotion campaign and how many seats left unsold when customers phoned in to book, as some were exaggerated.

Indonesian plane missing over Papua region
    35 minutes ago

An Indonesian plane with 54 people on board is missing in Papua region, officials have said.
Contact was lost with the Trigana Air ATR 42 turboprop just before 15:00 local time (06:00 GMT) after take-off from Sentani airport in the regional capital Jayapura.
The plane was flying to the town of Oksibil in the south of the region.
It is carrying 44 adult passengers, five children and infants, and five crew.
The plane took off from Sentani at 14:21 and contact was lost at 14:55.
Transport ministry spokesman Julius Barata confirmed the disappearance.

Trigana Air operates domestic flights throughout Indonesia
"We are not sure what happened to the plane yet and we are co-ordinating with local authorities," he told AFP news agency.
"The weather is currently very bad there, it's very dark and cloudy. It's not conducive for a search. The area is mountainous."
Trigana Air has had 14 serious incidents since it began operations in 1991, losing 10 aircraft in the process, according to the Aviation Safety Network.
It has been on a European Union blacklist of banned carriers since 2007. All but four of Indonesia's certified airlines are on the list.
Correspondents say Indonesia has a patchy aviation record overall, with two major crashes in the past year.
An Indonesia AirAsia plane crashed in the Java Sea last December while on an international flight from Surabaya to Singapore, killing all 192 people on board.
A military transport plane crashed in a residential area of Medan, Sumatra in July, killing more than 140 people including several on the ground.

Don't argue about your baggage allowance in England because if you do expect to get Tasered.

Passenger Tasered on Easyjet plane at Gatwick.

A passenger on an Easyjet aircraft at Gatwick Airport has been Tasered by police shortly before it was due to take off for Belfast.
Officers boarded the plane shortly after 08:00 BST following reports a passenger had become abusive in an argument over luggage.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of breach of the peace and is in custody, a Sussex Police spokesman said.
Witness statements are being taken from passengers and crew aboard the plane.
    'Man purse'

In a statement, Easyjet said police were called to the aircraft "due to a passenger behaving disruptively".
Niall Copeland tweeted: "Man getting arrested on @easyJet flight home to #Belfast because he wants 2 pieces of hand luggage!"
He then posted: "All because he was insistent of wearing his man purse."
The other passengers were taken off the plane following the arrest, police said.
Gary Trainor tweeted: "Back in the departure lounge after a man was tasered on my flight in a baggage dispute! #gatwick #easyjet"
He later posted: "Back on board! @easyjet were efficient and got us back on ASAP, I hope the tasered man isn't badly hurt!"
Flight EZY831 was delayed by just over two-and-a-half hours and the plane took off just before 10:55.

Drunk air passengers could be banned from boarding UK flights

British passengers found to be inebriated could face being blacklisted from travelling with domestic airlines, according to report

    Joel Gunter
    Saturday 19 September 2015 12.10 BST

Passengers who drink too much at airports could be banned from boarding flights under new plans to combat the rising number of air rage incidents, according to a report.

The restrictions could include tighter limits on the number of drinks served at airport bars and during the flight, as well as tougher checks at boarding gates to identify intoxicated passengers.

British passengers found to be drunk could face being blacklisted from travelling with domestic airlines, according to a report in the Times, while airport staff serving alcohol may be expected to report inebriated travellers before they board flights.

Figures from the Civil Aviation Authority show that there were 156 “disruptive” incidents recorded by British airlines so far in 2015. That is up from 114 in the previous year and just 85 in 2013.

There are already strict rules in place to prevent drunk or rowdy passengers from flying. A task force including the Department for Transport, CAA, police, airlines and airports has been set up to look into introducing new guidelines for enforcing existing legislation, the Times said.

Earlier this month a flight to Tenerife had to be diverted to Portugal after 14 passengers were accused of threatening the cabin crew. The men, who were travelling from Glasgow, were banned from airline Jet2 for life. The same week, a passenger jet en route from Newcastle to Turkey was forced to divert to Bulgaria after a drunk women threatened to smash the aircraft’s windows.

The steep climb in recorded incidents might be down to better reporting of disruptive behaviour and a greater number of flights, a spokesman for the CAA said.

“The number of incidents last year did rise but we have also seen an increase in the number of flights. Cabin crew are getting better trained to deal with incidents and could be reporting more of them,” the spokesman said.

He added: “There is no excuse for rude or aggressive conduct by passengers towards cabin crew or fellow passengers on board aircraft. It is actually a specific criminal offence to be drunk on board an aircraft, and also to refuse to comply with instructions from the captain. We support UK airlines’ efforts to deal with disruptive passengers to ensure the safety of all those on board, and welcome criminal prosecutions where appropriate.”

Do they still hand out free alcoholic drinks in economy class?

More big brother taking control of a person. The numbers of incidents are "rising rapidly", more attention to the problem, more flights and probably a staff bonus if the flight has no problems.

As you say you are a passenger not a pilot who is flying the plane and not an attendant, whose role is the safety of the passengers. Will check in include a breathalyser test, will enplaning include a breathalyser test, will all bars and alcoholic drinks be banned from airports?

Why not have a hygiene/odour test, a talking loudly test. Should the seats be arranged by how handsome/beautiful you are?

^ Aviation has gone insane since 9-11 and everything is a big deal. So what, a few planes get diverted, nothing dangerous about that. Perhaps if more of the skyhags were trained to behave like customer service providers instead of jail guards, more of these situations could be diffused.

According to the minister, Utapao is being considered as a possible location for a new maintenance base.

According to Thai president Charamporn Jotikasthira, the airline the MRO subsidiary of Air France-KLM, AFI KLM E&M, are still discussing the types of services to be offered by the MRO joint venture as well as details on the investments by both parties.
