    Interesting post.

The underlying shackle is that many US workers the health cover is a reason to accept poor pay and conditions as access to Drs costs and many with pre existing struggle.

Wonder if safety will improve with a coerced disgruntled workforce.
I have no idea of curreny rates but when my cousin moved there in 1980s from Bristol Aircrafr Co it was for the far superior salary, may have been skewed by exchange rate or PP

^ Don't you just love modern media reporting...

An engine surge during throttle up at the start of the take-off roll gets reported as, "...wing burst into flames..." and a standard evacuation becomes "...passengers flee plane..."

^ Good capture, but it's still just an engine surge.

I've seen way more flame from a wet start...

A plane was forced to make an emergency landing after its pilot died on board.
The Turkish Airlines flight from Seattle to Istanbul was diverted to New York after the man lost consciousness shortly after take-off.

The crew gave the 59-year-old emergency treatment on board and tried to revive him, but he died before the aircraft landed.

It is believed the co-pilot safely landed the plane.

Flight tracking data showed the Airbus A350 took off from Seattle on Tuesday night before flying north over Canada.

However, it then abruptly diverted south and landed at
John F Kennedy International Airport just before 6am local time on Wednesday.

    The
airline named the captain as Ilcehin Pehlivan.

8 pax from Bangkok to Hua Hin for USD3,840.

Siam Seaplane (Bangkok Don Mueang) has secured its air operator certificate (AOC) from the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), paving the way for it to start commercial flights. The certificate, AOC.0032, is valid through October 1, 2026.
"With our AOC certification in hand today (October 2), we are now ready to operate," said CEO Worakanaya Siripidej. "I want to assure everyone that our standards will always exceed expectations."
Despite its name, Siam Seaplane will not launch with amphibious aircraft. Instead, it will begin with land-based operations relying on a single Cessna (single turboprop) 208EX registered as HS-SSP (msn 5076). "We realised that the process and approvals for the water take-offs and landings will take time to secure," Seaplane Asia CEO Dennis Keller told ch-aviation earlier this year. Seaplane Asia is Siam Seaplane's parent entity. "We knew this from the start, but it is taking longer than initially planned. We decided, in the interim, to start with land-to-land operations."

Who writes this stuff? There is some uncertainty over whether or not the plane landed safely? Or suspicion that some hapless passenger took the controls?

I did notice that but decided it was probably pointless bothering to comment on it.

I did Halong Bay-PNH in one of those seaplanes, flying over the bay first.

It did seem a bit, for want of a better word, rickety.

I'm sure it's got absolutely nothing to do with scaring strikers.

Boeing is cutting 17,000 jobs “to align with our financial reality” as the beleaguered aerospace giant grapples with a sweeping strike and the persisting fallout from its latest safety crisis.

The American firm also announced plans to delay the first delivery of its 777X commercial jetliner by a year, and braced investors for “substantial” new losses in its struggling defense business.

Boeing to cut 17,000 jobs amid worker strike and crisis over plane safety | Boeing | The Guardian

Added: Didn't know they were still making this.

Overall, the commercial aircraft business will record charges of $3 billion as it closes down production of the 767 program in 2027, after the remaining aircraft on order are built.

^ I guess the workforce should have taken that 30% offer. That offer has also been removed with the latest announcement.

^^^ That's the B767-300 Freighter and Tanker variants that are still being built until 2027. The passenger version stopped production back in 2014.

^^ I'm surprised BA aren't using an A350 for the KL route, rather than the B787

Accidents are only reported because of their rarity. The big airlines had to spend money on maintenance during two years of Covid.

Suddenly, they began carrying paying passengers again and tried to recoup their losses immediately. Covid ended and airlineprices went through the roof. When will competition force prices down again?

Covid ended so long ago. Surely costs have been recouped by now?

It was removed four days ago after being rejected. Probably why they're trying out a new tactic.

The union said that it surveyed its members after receiving Boeing's most recent offer, and it was rejected overwhelmingly.

    Boeing brinkmanship

The management and unions both playing hardball.
A prolonged delay will erode confidence , new orders and credit lines, but to accede may make price point unviable against Airbus.

Skilled workers cannot be obtained quickly and if lost forever a headache. My step sisters ex spent 3 years training for B Aerospace before moving to Boeing Seattle long ago, but I doubt the apprenticeship is much shorter with all the newer technology, health and safety that quite rightly prevalent.

I cannot imagine any US regime allowing it's main aircraft manufacturer to fail, but subsidy of either workforce salary or management won't be popular with taxpayers. Trump I imagine woud insist US based airlines go American but in the global market many Aircraft are leased for mainly fiscal reasons .

Airlines have a choice between buying their aircraft or leasing them. Leasing has emerged as the preferred option, rising from roughly 10% of the total fleet in the 1970s to 58% at the end of 2023.Apr 12, 2024

More aircraft are leased than owned by airlines globally - IATA

It is a while since I worked with Airlines but perhaps Troy or others can express a more relevant opinion.

Airbus is ahead and the huge Chinese market may be eroded by domestic production in due course. While quality uncertain , like their tvs and cars may well appeal to poorer nations in the BRICS

Airbus is the world's largest aircraft manufacturer, based on revenue and number of aircraft deliveries:

    • Revenue: Airbus has the highest market valuation of the aircraft manufacturing industry, at over $114.97 billion as of 2024.

    • Deliveries: Airbus is the world's largest manufacturer of airliners, delivering 735 aircraft in 2023.

    • Helicopters: Airbus is also the leading helicopter manufacturer.

    Other major aircraft manufacturers include:

    • Boeing: The second largest aircraft manufacturer, with a market valuation of $113.82 billion as of 2024. Boeing's established jet brand is the 7-series.

    • Lockheed Martin: A major military aircraft manufacturer.

    • Embraer: A Brazilian aircraft manufacturer.

    • Textron: A US-based aircraft manufacturer.

    • Dassault Aviation: An aircraft manufacturer.

    • Bombardier: An aircraft manufacturer.

    • Hindustan Aeronautics: An aircraft manufacturer.

    • Joby Aviation: An aircraft manufacturer.

    • Korea Aerospace Industries: An aircraft manufacturer.

HCM CITY — Bamboo Airways has announced the resumption of its flights between Hồ Chí Minh City and Bangkok, Thailand, next month, marking its first international flight after a one-year hiatus due to financial challenges.
The carrier will operate one daily round-trip flight between the two cities starting on November 26.
The flight will depart from HCM City's Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport at 11:15am and arrive at Bangkok's Don Mueang International Airport at 2pm.
Tickets are currently available for purchase, with round-trip fares starting at VNĐ3.56 million (US$143), as announced on the airline's Facebook page.
Bamboo Airways initially launched the HCM City to Bangkok route in April 2022 and the Hà Nội to Bangkok route in March 2023. At that time, flights were routed to Bangkok’s larger Suvarnabhumi International Airport.
Bamboo Airways previously had a broad flight network across Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Europe, and Australia.
However, in October last year, it suspended international flights due to rising debt, losses from rapid expansion, the impact of COVID-19, and increasing fuel prices.

Singapore scrambles fighter jets after bomb threat on Air India Express flight

The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) scrambled F-15SG jets on Tuesday night (Oct 15) after a bomb threat on an Air India Express flight.
The airline had received an email that there was a bomb on board flight AXB684 that was bound for Singapore, Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said in a Facebook post.

Two F-15SG jets escorted the plane away from populated areas and it touched down at Changi Airport at around 10.04pm, more than an hour after it was due to land.

"Our Ground Based Air Defence systems and Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were also activated. Once on the ground, the plane was handed to the Airport Police," Dr Ng said, adding that investigations are ongoing.

"Many thanks to the dedication and professionalism of our Singapore Armed Forces and Home Team that keep us safe in our homes, even when threats exist around us."

Air India Express is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Air India and a part of the Tata group.

Flight AXB684 took off from Madurai at about 1.54pm and was due to land in Singapore at about 8.50pm, according to flight tracking website Flightradar24.

It was one of several flights taking off from India that were disrupted on Monday and Tuesday due to bomb threats, media outlets in India reported.

An Air India Express flight from Ayodhya to Bengaluru also received a hoax bomb threat on Tuesday, according to NDTV.

One Air India flight from New Delhi to Chicago was forced to make an emergency landing at Iqaluit Airport in Canada after a "security threat" was posted online, the airline said.

The aircraft and passengers were "rescreened as per the laid down security protocol".

“Air India notes that it, and other local airlines, have been subject to a number of threats in recent days," it added.

Similar hoaxes were received by India's low-cost airline IndiGo for two flights from Mumbai on Monday – one to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and another to Muscat in Oman, according to media outlets in India.

NDTV reported that a SpiceJet flight SG116 from Darbhanga to Mumbai and an Akasa Air flight QP1373 from Bagdogra to Bengaluru also received bomb threats on Tuesday.

At least 19 Indian flights have received hoax bomb threats since Monday, leading to long delays and diversions.

On Wednesday, an Air Akasa flight headed to Bengaluru city was redirected to the capital Delhi following a bomb threat.

On Tuesday, Singapore's Air Force sent
two fighter jets to escort an Air India Express plane following a bomb threat.

Hours before that, an Air India plane from Delhi to Chicago had to land at a Canadian airport as a precautionary measure.

IndiGo and SpiceJet are also among the affected airlines.

Hoax bomb threats to airlines are not unusual in India but it's not clear what triggered the sudden surge since Monday.

On Wednesday, India's civil aviation minister said the ministry was closely monitoring the situation and making "every possible effort" to safeguard flight operations.
