Egypt's military has spotted a body part, seats and suitcases in the Mediterranean Sea in the area where EgyptAir flight MS804 disappeared from radar, Greece's defence minister has said.

Panos Kammenos told a news conference: "We were informed (by Egyptian authorities) that a body part, two seats and one or more items of luggage just south of where the aircraft signal was lost."

Earlier, Egypt's armed forces spokesman Brigadier General Mohammed Samir said that passengers' belongings were among items found by a navy vessel and aircraft sweeping the area in the hunt for the black box of the Airbus A320.

The debris was believed to include parts of the missing plane and was found 290km (180 miles) from the Egyptian city of Alexandria.

The Brigadier General added that the "part of the wreckage" had been salvaged.

^ Unfortunately, Lockerbie incident showed that some survived the fall all the way to the ground.

In the whatdunnit stakes, I'm going for a post kebab incident, exacerbated by over indulgence in brussel sprouts, causing a microburst in the forward lavatory. The subsequent depressurisation was initially coped with rather well by the crew but the sudden movement of passengers running out onto the right wing proved too much.

Investigators are thought to be looking into the possibility that a bomb with a timer was put on the aircraft in Tunis or Eritrean capital Asmara – and set to go off on the later journey from Paris to Cairo.

Phil Giles said: “It may have been put on board at Paris, though security is very tight there already.

“We may see a focus on the airside staff there in the coming days.”

and the pilots were heard speaking in Arabic.

^ It's the same shit every time, why doesn't the media and these so called experts wait until there is some solid evidence to report?

'Smoke detected' inside cabin before crash

There were smoke alerts inside the cabin of the EgyptAir passenger plane before it crashed in the Mediterranean on Thursday, reports say.

Smoke was detected in the toilet and the aircraft's electrics, just minutes before the signal was lost, according to data published on air industry website the Aviation Herald.

However, there has been no official confirmation of the data.

Flight MS804 was en route from Paris to Cairo with 66 people on board.

The Aviation Herald said it had received flight data filed through the Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) from three independent channels.

It said the system showed that at 02:26 local time on Thursday (00:26 GMT) smoke was detected in the Airbus A320 toilet.

A minute later - at 00:27 GMT - there was an avionics smoke alert.

The last ACARS message was at 00:29 GMT, the air industry website said, and the contact with the plane was lost four minutes later at 02;33 local time.

ACARS is used to routinely download flight data to the airline operating the aircraft.....

Not a full flight then. There's still room on the wings.

Which could mean a fire rather than a bomb.

Oh dear, and Trump has pinned all his hopes on terrorism.

Or a planted incendiary device, as opposed to an explosive device.

And you've heard of terrorists planting incendiary devices on planes exactly how many times?

Easier to get past security that is primarily looking for explosives, or be planted in the hold by an airside worker, and a plane brought down by fire is much more confusing for the authorities than one that suddenly explodes.

The Russian Metrojet Airbus 320 that went down over Sinai earlier this year was reportedly in flames, after a suspected onboard explosion.

Fire is one expected consequence of an explosion.

Yes, bombs quite often *cause* fire, but ACARS reporting smoke all over the plane before it went down indicates perhaps a fire somewhere where they couldn't get to it?

On May 20th 2016 The Aviation Herald received information from three independent channels, that ACARS (Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System) messages with following content were received from the aircraft:

    00:26Z 3044 ANTI ICE R WINDOW
    00:26Z 561200 R SLIDING WINDOW SENSOR
    00:26Z 2600 SMOKE LAVATORY SMOKE
    00:27Z 2600 AVIONICS SMOKE
    00:28Z 561100 R FIXED WINDOW SENSOR
    00:29Z 2200 AUTO FLT FCU 2 FAULT
    00:29Z 2700 F/CTL SEC 3 FAULT
    Maybe something like SwissAir 111?

Contact was lost four minutes later.

But again, *exactly* how many times have you heard of a terrorist using an incendiary device to bring down an aircraft?

I hope this isn't a battery going up in flames or they're bound to ban all phones from planes.

Of course it could be a cunning plan from Samsung and Apple to boost sales...

Well firstly he was British and secondly his shoe was packed with explosives.

Officials at the time indicated that Reid's shoes contained 10 ounces (283 g) of explosive material characteristic of C-4—enough to blow a hole in the fuselage and cause the plane to crash.
