I am not one to go out of my way to offend any race or belief, and I try to respect peoples creed's.
But if the UK government has decided to honour a Booker prize winning author, that has got fuck all to do with anyone else.![]()

Which may well be one of the many reasons he wasn't rvrn considered for knighthood.Originally Posted by DrAndy

I have never worked out why some people are knighted, and others not
unless some money or favours happen
why Salman Rushdie, there are many other Booker authors who could be considered?
Ian Botham I can understand, even Paul Mc (twat, sorry, Sir Twat) but not Salman
^ Maybe so, but how does that matter?
It ain't GWB's or the Ayatollah's decision who the British confer an honour upon.
Rushdie seems sufficiently famed, as well as displaying that snotty Brit upper-class attitude to become part of the in-crowd.
You don't have to work it out. Whole process is laid out clearly for everybody to understand. We've already been through the Rushdie/Knighthood stuff on another thread - https://teakdoor.com/issues/14947-aut...nighthood.html - is it really necessary to do it again here?

maybe if we want to, yes
anyway, I thank you for the link, I did not see that topic
I do notice now that you have strong views on the subject and were not happy with a couple of posters
I still do not think he is that good an author or contributor to the arts to be considered. Still, he is up there with Paul McCartney now, which shows that content is not everything
I have reported your post
Not that the posters themselves bother me, it's when people express opinions based on ignorance that I get bothered. Somebody who says something along the lines of "I haven't read his books but...." has already admitted that their opinion is not based on knowledge but on prejudice. Liking Rushdie's works is a matter of taste, believing that the fatwa was justified or not is a matter of opinion, as is believing whether or not he deserves his knighthood. I just believe that in order to have an opinion about the whole subject people should know what it's all about. That's why, when I expressed my opinion, I listed his works and his honours, summarised the plot of his book "The Satanic Verses", described the historical and theological background to the original satanic verses, listed the names of the people who approved his knighthood, and gave links to detailed explanations about how the British honours system works. I think that after doing that in the belief that the people on that thread opposing Rushdie were doing so based on some knowledge of the situation I was justified in being annoyed at the juvenile responses, even the juvenile responses wouldn't have been so bad if they'd actually had anything to do with the subject at hand or contained any substance which could contribute to a counter-argument.

Excuse me, but this started out as a Bernard Manning discussion. It has turned into a Salman Rushdie,Paul MaCartney, should they be, or should they not be knighted, British nationality, and policy debate.
Bernard Manning was a great jewish comedian. Full stop.

If you're going to get upset by thread-drift maybe you're in the wrong place![]()
Hello Dr Bob,
Obviously, your sense of humour is limited, and you seem to be confused, as to why everyone else is not the same. I think you should get out more.

DrBob is a very serious chap, as evidenced by
if he has an opinion, he needs to explain why he is correct and you are not. That's why, when I expressed my opinion, I listed his works and his honours, summarised the plot of his book "The Satanic Verses", described the historical and theological background to the original satanic verses, listed the names of the people who approved his knighthood, and gave links to detailed explanations about how the British honours system works.
oh yes, why was BM a jewish comedian, and not a comedian?
DrAndy.
I added, "jewish" to sort of let people know that he took the mickey out of all races even his own..
I have nothing against being jewish. I'm saving up!!!!!!!![]()
