Ok, I agree that none of us wants this:

But, if you want to have a "sticky" forum where people stay and post, they need to feel that it is not anarchy, and that it has a place for them where they won't get personally attacked unless they want it.

Still some work to go to reach that happy balance - but there is hope.

I would be far better and certainly less trouble if people grew thicker skins and were a bit more selective in what they say.

Look at TV now. The vast majority of people with less that 500 posts are insipid, boring and overly PC. I reckon we get the quality here. TD seems to winnow most of the mediocre posters away.

Basicly, I wouldn't want the mod policy changed. I don't consider it broke, so, don't fix it.

yeah, well I would argue that the vast majority of posters with more than 500 posts are the truly insipid and boring, including myself. The subjects just keep recycling and it is an endless cluster-fuk.

Quality? Diversity of opinion and broad-based experience is my benchmark. TV has that. Teakdoor at least until now appeals to a limited pool of subversives, of which I am one.

That is not a formula for success.

Interesting take on things.
I would say TV have deliberately moderated diversity and character out to a minimum common denominator a couple of years ago. Have a look at some of the characters in any old thread - all banned.

Stroller, I'm in agreement. There is a void between where TV is on the draconian, "how can I maximize my ad revenue" and "not offend the Thai government" side; and the other, whatever that may be.

I'm not sure where teakdoor fits in yet, but I do know that there is wide dissent among tv members. I get PMs from very respectable posters there, complaining of the restrictions on free speech. Those same posters say they come over here, have a look, and decide to give it a miss.... Why?

I suspect it's because things are still a little too "wild, wild, east?" here. Not to tell you how to run your business.

Chinthee, when I first came here from TV I was very nervous about posting.
This place is not very newbie friendly because everyone is suspicous of you at first.
It takes longer to break the ice here

We are probably the newest thailand forum on the block so to speak, traffic wise we are the second busiest, but we got a long way to go to get up to tv levels, I am obviously not including whore monger forums in that generalisation.

It's not my business, I am just a regular poster and mod in one section here.
Basically, TD does not 'fit in' when you look over from TV, Teakdoor is Teakdoor and to be judged on its own merits, though there are a number of former and current TV members here.

Like most people, I also went through a period of being taken back by some of the stuff that's left standing here, gone over the top myself to test the boundaries, and now call this my home.

There's something here for a wide range of interests, curious that many newbies get put off by the bickering in the Cap's Lounge and Moronic kiddies - try the more moderated sections if you don't like this.

Chinthee - I do find it rather ironic that you as an ex TV member is in favour of more moderation on this board, when it is one of the many reasons that you left/forsook the other board.

I can't really talk about moderation as have never been the subject of it and have only posted on this board, but whatever the TD mods are doing they are doing the job well and unobtrusivly. The self moderation on this board I think is good, step to much out of line and you are told by other posters, and most of us reasonable posters know when we have stepped out of line.

Thats just my take on it. Yep if the board grows then a few tweaks with the mod policy will have to happen, but lets try and keep it as it is.

I think you've missed my point. I don't like it when threads go off topic. I like to be able to rely on a thread's title. But, when I complained about off topic threads earlier I was told by a mod:

It's just like real life.

You don't expect a conversation to stay on topic the entire time you are conversing with someone, so why expect it here?

So, I guess that's not the case anymore, right? Drifting off topic is no longer allowed?

Ah oh, I guess I'm lobbying for the beginning of the end. Moderators. Seriously, in terms of gaining a wider audience of participation, there will have to be some moderation though minimally intrusive.

Thats basically my viewpoint, but I'm only an Issues Mod.

One good thing TD mod's do is split threads- when a thread goes so off topic it effectively becomes a new, different topic a new thread is started with it- not always MKP either.
At least one century thread has originated this way.

Now the stalking certain folks, me included, starts again.
Maybe there should be a forum for the stalkers,, sTroller and ANT should head the list.

I think you started this thread with a bad example, ie not only did the thread go off topic it went onto become a racist rant, maybe a better recent example would be a good idea.
