September 11, 2001 did it change you in any way?

"Yahoo! is asking Americans how September 11 changed them. Below is an account from a reader."

9/11 Turns an Average Family into a Military Family - Yahoo! News

I saw this on yahoo and thought I would put the same question to TD members (Americans, Brits, Ausies etc) -

I am hoping we can keep this thread respectful and mature.

    Thanks,
    Chi

It made me feel less secure when I'm in the States- that feeling of invulnerability was taken away.

It made me feel some prejudice and hatred towards an entire group (Muslims) even though I know logically that it's really only a small percentage that actually share the feelings of the hijackers.

I watched the Towers being built when I was a kid- I feel like I lost something- when I see the NYC skyline, the loss is as obvious as a missing front tooth.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

I was angry and maybe still a bit angry. I still feel a tad strange (maybe emptiness) when I read about Sept. 11 or when I see photos or videos about the attack.

What changed for me? It was not just September 11, but a series of events surrounding that year and the following year. However, Sept. 11 played a major roll in my life's change.

I really stopped looking at life the same way. I decided that life was too short to try and reach "the American financial dream" status whilst not taking time to enjoy life. I changed my focus from business and money to personal happiness. I decided that travel and more of a simple life made me happy. I am not poor by any means, but financially secure. I am a millionaire many times over via life's blessings and joys.

I live on less, but live life a whole lot more. My desire for material things and money is a whole lot less. My desire for living life to its fullest is extremely high. I would not change the decision to change my life's course if I died tomorrow.

So, if you see me listed in the farang deaths thread and Dirty Dog inserts the R.I.P. status in my user profile please know that I died fulfilled, happy and living my life in a way I can only describe as "perfect"!

It made me suspicious of every single Muslim I see, but so did the Beslan school massacre.

Even so my friend, no human being deserved to die because of hatred for the US government. I lost a very, very close and beloved friend when the towers went down.

I totally agree. It's not what happened on that day that enlightened me, but what has happened since. And going from your statement about 'no human being deserving to die because of their hatred of the US government', I know you think the same was as I do about all the people murdered by both our governments in the phony 'war against terror' (which is the propaganda programme instigated in the wake of the events of 11/9).

However back to the question ,,,,,,,,,it has changed me in so much as my toenails actually get cut now on a regular basis ,, instead of being allowed to grow untill they snap in the ends of my boots ,,,,,,,,, due to enhanced security at the airports now

The only way its affected me, is that its been an inconvenience to travel abroad ever since. Like most Brits, we`ve lived with terrorism, and the threat of it for many years prior to 9/11 to one degree or another ( depnding on your profession). Like Marmite posted, I do agree its opened my eyes as to how far our governments will go, in order to maintain power.

The IRA is a great example of a war that could never be won, yeah UK soldiers killed loads of them, but when it came down to it, ie Gibralter and shooting them down like the dogs they are the British public was disgusted, a shoot to kill policy was the headlines, when the fuk has there been a shoot to wound policy, so then shooting terrorists dead wasn't allowed from the UK, things went down from there, As for the US, they are just idiots that think they can win a war against people that don't wear uniforms, aint gonna happen and real dumb thinking.

I certainly wouldn't be surprised considering I was harboring Osama bin laden.
