The point I was initially (drunkenly) tried to make was that we humans, with all our airs of superiority, are really no different than the other animals that are unfortunate enough to share this planet with us; and that a visiting higher intelligence (alien) would not notice any real difference between us and other animals....The alien would of course realise that we have a relatively higher intelligence than chimps, but would not see our actions and rituals as being in any way 'outstanding' - For example, funerals would probably be seen as an interesting idiosyncrasy in the same way that a terrestrial nature program would comment on turtles returning to the beach of their hatching to lay their eggs....I can imagine an alien voice-over, "....and nobody is quite sure why they do this", to a scene of humans parachuting.....Obviously the majority of social rituals of males would be seen as attempts to initiate the mating-sequence; whilst most actions of females would be seen as attempts to have the leaking tap in the downstairs bathroom fixed.

The donut aspect of the thread is all a bit of a mystery to be honest with you....
