Angry Missing numbers following mobile change

I recently upgraded my loyal old Nokia to a nice shiny 2330, but I tried to call so and so the other day and his number wasn't there, and just now I had a phone call from somebody I know very well but only her number came up.

Most of my contacts are all in but it seems that a random selected few have not made the transition. So what now, have I got to switch my SIM into my old phone to get hold of somebody I know well yet I still have the number of some Thai bird I knew for one night back in 2008.

I suppose you're going to tell me that the missing numbers were saved to my old phone memory and not the SIM, so how can I get them all into my new phone? Can I go to any phone shop and tell them to do it for me? ...Or do I have to take out the SIM, put it back in my old phone and spend an hour figuring out how to copy all contacts to SIM even though it's probably full anyway which is why this has happened, probably.

Knowing my luck i'll end up with 90% of my numbers twice and I won't be able to get the SIM out anyway because I bite my nails. If i'd wanted all this hassle, (and I was a homosexual), I would have bought an iphone 4.

You don't have to be an homosexual to own an iphone 4. With your mincing walk and limp wristed drama queen gestures, i am sure the device will suit you well.

Punch them in manually then if it is only a few missing..

Nokia PC Suite can handle all your contacts, you can copy from phone mem or sim mem to computer, edit them, delete, append new, and then transfer back to the phone mem or to sim mem.

I'm sure you can do the same in your Mac (if you have an iPhone )
May the bridges I burn light my way

But I don't have a Nokia suite, I don't even know what one looks like. There was no CD Rom with the box or any of that gay stuff. I just got a charger with a plug thinner than a nostril hair. Only just figured out where to plug it in, the socket/s are hidden under a flap which I can't open without the aid of a Swiss army knife because I bite my nails.

Running Nokia PC Suite on a Mac is NOT a hassle free thing to do, and is also one of the reasons why Apple should embrace Symbian for its iPhone.
If I take both phones to a shop can this be done for me. I want all the numbers I had in my old phone in my new one, I don't have time to fuck around trying to figure out software.

It's an intiutive thing so any of the birds in the shop should be able to do it for you.

You have two ways to store contacts 1) onthe simcard 2) In the phonememory.

You need to put your sim in your old phone go into contacts and copy contacts to Sim... Then you have a copy of all your contacts on your sim.

If you have 5million contacts ...then this wont work... it also onlycopiesa limited sizename and number and no extra info ...

    2. Backup phone.

    3. Clone new phone.

The right way to do it is:

    1. Insert sim card in new phone and choose function to move all your contacts from the sim card into the new phones memory.
Moving means that they get deleted from the sim card, freeing up the space on it.
If there is no move function then use the copy function followed by erase contacts on the sim card.

    2. Insert now empty sim card into old phone and move contacts from phone memory into sim card.

    3. Goto 1 (repeat sequence as many times as necessary for emptying the old phones memory).

Now all your contacts are in the new phones memory and you can edit them there and copy them to the sim card if you so wish.

If this is a bit too complicated for Scampy (tnx Katana) then he could try to turn on Bluetooth on both phones, pair them, and copy the contacts via Bluetooth.

I still think he shouldn't skip the opportunity to get a natural contact with one of the phone shop birds..

Look, can't I just delete all the contacts I no longer need, don't want and never use by deleting them on my new phone which should delete them from the SIM also, thus freeing up space.

Than, I can take out the SIM and put it in my old phone and copy everything to the SIM before putting it back in the new phone, right?

There are many way to flog a cat Scampy but the sequence I listed is the easiest for you.
Removing the unwanted one from the sim to free space and then you'll likely to get some of them back because they were not only in the sim but also in the old phones memory.
Transfer everything to the new phone and spend half an hour editing out the unwanted ones.

A PC program has many advantages, have you ever lost a phone and all your contacts?
With a backup on your computer it is very easy to get a brand new empty phone up to date..
Editing contacts is also much easier on a computer screen than on the phone.

Why on earth are you doing this to yourself? Do what I do and simply find a young person and explain your predicament. They generally execute solutions with gusto if only to prove their superiority in matters they think important and raises their morale. Two birds with one stone, eh what?

I think biting your nails along with nose picking and fiddling with your feet when in company are three of the more disgusting personal habits one can acquire.

Pissing about with my phone on the computer sounds really fascinating.

    No.

I have been very happy with the three phones I have had in the past decade. This is the 4th. never lost one, left one in a taxi or had one stolen. But I am an idiot for not being hip and with it and up to date on the latest gimmicks.

Thanks for the suggestions anyway, i'll figure it out one day.

The hip factor on this one is quite low, it is considered to be a trivial and basic task.

As with most backups it will be just one day too late, the day when you can't do the backup any more.
Good luck with your new phone anyway
