One feature of Americans the Brits often miss, especially any negative reference to the old days or the expansion days, is that we were mostly English, especially true with the ruling class.

It didn't actually quite make its maiden voyage, so all the paddies were left to drown.Quote:

Obvious and outrageous troll. I thought it was destined for MKP when I first saw it.
Luckily everyone rallied around and made the best of a bad job. :)
The Simpsons are Canadian? Matt Groening is from the state of Oregon. That's in the USA in case you don't know.

TBH, I thought it was quite a poor effort. A year or two ago, this thread would be triple century already.

You see, only BIG counts. They can't comprehend any other concept and Chitown, bless him, rushes in with those HUGE feet anxious to prove the point like the GREAT palooka he truly is.
not to mention the huge neck
and seemingly always leading with his chin.Quote:

Thank you for the fun reading this morning, while we celebrate Memorial Day. A rembrance of those soliders who died in war, many to stop forces attacking certain European countries.
Really in poor taste to do so.

how is that positive again for the Americans ?
Lets start with the facts that the US did not attack Japan, Japan attacked the US.
After WWI Europe punished Germany, which in no small part led to Hitler coming to power and the advent of WWII. After WWII the US did the exact opposite, they helped rebuild both their friends and enemies. Without US aid, who knows how long it would have taken both Japan and Germany to get to the prominence that they have achieved.
With hindsight, I won't moralize about the dropping of the two bombs. The only thing I will say is, can you argue against the thought back then about how many hundreds of thousand soldiers that might have died, if it weren't for the dropping of an atomic bomb, since it took, not one, but two of them to convince Japan to surrender.
