If i get asked to loan money, if i know and like them and want to remain friends, i'd give it to them, not a loan.
If i dont care if i see em again, i lend it to them.
If they are neither of the above they can f*ck off.
just ticked all them boxes mate..sorry no loan for youOriginally Posted by DJ Pat
on another note, yes i have lent, but only with security and deadlines, you fail the deadline you loose your stake..the only time i have lost my loan/s..bloody family, never again
There was an occasion - that was documented in Teakdoor, of a loan between one member and another.
There was considered to be credit risk and flight risk, so the borrower's passport was placed as collateral for the loan.
The loan was repaid and the passport returned.
^ yeah, it was a classic Scampy moment
loved the part when the money to be paid back was instead spent on a trip to Kho Samui to visit a TD member for a pissup
No more free rides on loans from me- if you need cash, you leave me something of value as collateral (a chanote, car/bike book, whatever) and you pay interest (3-10% per month depending on the situation).
There are five people in my life who are exempt from the above, and they are welcome to anything and everything I have at any time- all others have to show me they're worth the risk.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

I've lent various friends money over the years and usually always got it back with thanks.
Family is a different matter though. You can pick your friends..

This is true- if somebody needs, say, 1,000 baht, I'll just give it and forget about it- if it comes back later (in cash, a couple beers, whatever) great- if not, it's not enough to stress over.
Old Mark sums it up for me.
"The holy passion of friendship is so sweet and steady and loyal and enduring in nature that it will last through a whole lifetime, if not asked to lend money."
Mark Twain
Oh it was a con alright, you confirmed already he did it at many bars. Everybody was set up emotionally with the initial "emergency" request and faithful repayment of loan, the sting being the second, bigger tab and vanishing act.Originally Posted by somtamslap
I once heard about a certain DJ who would make a habit of borrowing a few hundred baht at a time from his mates. Never paid it back but would have the cheek to turn up a month later and ask for more. He never tried it on me (only met him once) but he burnt a lot of people and lost a few fiendships along the way. I believe this certain DJ is now living in England and posts on this forum.
As far as I firgure a couple of hundred baht to work out what sort of person you are dealing with is a fair cost, I aint gonna miss it, and I've saved wasting time with an ass that I'm better off not spending time with
