What's bemusing about this sort of scenario is not only that people marry uneducated women from predominntly rural backgrounds and are somehow surprised and perplexed when they act like uneducated women from a rural background, but that they actually fall for it. Some many times over by the sounds of it.

What does that say about the allegedly more 'intelligent' and 'culturally superior' Western men (who then go on to compound their own silliness and self-inflicted misfortunes by making the assumption/generalisation that all women from Thailand are uneducated and from rural backgrounds out to scam them).

Such a thing does exist. But then of course most of the visitors to Thailand being referred to tend to congregate in and around areas populated with uneducated women from rural backgrounds (i.e. bars), labouring under the impression that they're all out to scam them.

MOST THAIS WILL INDISCRIMINATELY SCAM ANYBODY STUPID ENOUGH TO BE SCAMMED!

this includes friends, family members,husbands, wives ETC- not only farang men.

by the way, i know a number of thais with "masters degrees" that they obtained from thai universities, and as far as i am concerned, they were still undeucated and ignorant!

I've met some "highly educated" people here that have proved to be utter fukcing imbeciles. Their education has been bought and not earned.
The guys who work for me on the tools are the brightest and hardest working people I've met anywhere.

Actually not a true story but thats what it feels like sometimes

He was educated overseas...maybe evn grew up there...earnt his pass by actually passing......so of course this makes him very different and truly a rare creature.

I also know an old guy, grew up in Oz, wirey little 60 year old thai guy and swears in an Ozzi accent....very clever also....another exception.

But the jewels are few and far between, that is the problem.

Thai people are by nature, good people - and they are born no more or less dumb than the rest of us. If anything has made them dumb, stupid or greedy it is the influence from the west. Before they were corrupted and polluted by the power of the dollar and the pull of the television they were not judged against our own benchmark of what is stupid and what isn't, they were just a nation that had their own way of doing things and it worked for them.
