    Has Anyone Ever Bought A

water buffalo? I know a guy (not me) that actually bought two. Seems the first one was rather sickly and died after only six months in that horrid Issen weather. Then the family pick up truck went on the blink and had to be repaired in order to get the sugar cane crop in to harvest or the entire family would perish!

Anybody else have a favorite scam from bar girls?

Agreed. But I have modified your post.

4 Grandmothers / 6 grandfathers / 66 million sisters / Unlimited brothers and ex husbands and present husbands / 3 mothers / fathers, well long gone, need an urgent operation for a life-threatening illness. Maybe even more than one at a time. Common story through much of Asia.[/quote]

    kerrapp!!
30 baht max for urgent operation for life threatening illness.

sounds like YOU may have fallen for the "grandma fell down the stairs" bullshit, too!

grandma might not get vip treatment at a government hospital, and they won't do cosmetic surgery, but thailand has an EXCELLENT healthcare system in place.
met people who had prostheses provided FREE for limbs that were amputated FREE after contracting gangrene.
FREE hearing aids and FREE cateract operations
    FREE hospital stays-FREE dental care.

    believe me:
the money you send to thailand for grandma's "operation" or a new roof for poor mamma, who is suffering in a flooded house, will provide plenty of laughs at the "FREE booze courtesy of the dumb farang" party!
    brrrzzzzt, brrrzzzt!
    beep!. ting, ting

Oh dear. Now, go get out a map, look at it, and say to yourself ten times (slowly mind, so it can sink in), "Thailand does not equal Asia".

Came close once but backed off in time

Did have one gal ask me to repair the family pick up truck and pay for food for her brother who was in prison.

here's one i have seen many times and works very well for thai girls living abroad with their farang husbands:

    "my brother him no good.
him gambering and take houf paper of mammy and geeb anudder man to bollow money.
him lose money and now dis bad man waan to take house and land of my mammy.
my mammy veddy poor, seek also- no can working.
must we can send 100000baht before friday or my mammy no have houf and land."

another good one is the "brother knocks over and kills small child who ran in the road in front of his pickup and he will go to jail forever if the sucker farang doesn't pay the compensation to the deceased's family" scam.

What's bemusing about this sort of scenario is not only that people marry uneducated women from predominntly rural backgrounds and are somehow surprised and perplexed when they act like uneducated women from a rural background, but that they actually fall for it. Some many times over by the sounds of it.

What does that say about the allegedly more 'intelligent' and 'culturally superior' Western men (who then go on to compound their own silliness and self-inflicted misfortunes by making the assumption/generalisation that all women from Thailand are uneducated and from rural backgrounds out to scam them).

BECAUSE: (with the notable exception of course, of td members' wives and girlfriends),
MOST women from Thailand are uneducated and from rural backgrounds out to scam them.

actually, it has little to do with the "uneducated and rural background" thing:
more of a cultural (thai) thing, plus the fact that most visitors to thailand are unlikely to meet many thai women of high moral and ethical standard, if any such thing actually exists in thailand.
(with, of course the notable exception of wives and girlfriends of td members!)

I am sitting in my place of work in Thailand. There are 10 women working as part of my team. Two of them have PhDs. One has an MD. Four have Masters degrees. The other three women are currently studying Masters degrees.

My secretary (in another office) has three degrees. Two Bachelors degrees (one in accountancy), and a MPA (Masters of Public Administration).

..remind me of your point again?

it is better to just replace the water buffalo rether than repair it from genuine parts.

a friend of a friend of mine had to replace the horn on one once and the price was astronomical.

And why did they get gangrene in the first place ? not first class health care ?
