Not at all. I got my visa without having to show any bank balances, home ownership papers etc . . .

Nothing except for a document signed by my wife saying she can be held financially responsible for me should I amass debts and do a runner. My ensuing employment pass required a letter from the hiring company . . . in this case being my own and signed by my partner.

Not applicable to the retired nor is their residency permit as you have to have paid tax to the buggers for three years, so it's grovel or keep going home every 15 months for another visa with 90 days outings to some shitty outpost on the border, none very nice the older you get.

I read that there was a visa for an over 50 supporting a Thai child, where the "money in the bank" was discretional...so we all know what that means!...but has anyone managed to get this visa?

Apparently, if you had 100K it was deemed enough...but is this just the usual bullshit?
