    Kai Bae beach.

Scots beach in Thai tourist guide
    Tuesday, 15 December 2009

West beach on Berneray was passed off as Kai Bea beach

A photograph of a Hebridean beach is being used to promote holidays in Thailand, it has emerged.

The Thai tourist industry is passing off a picture of West Beach on the Isle of Berneray as one of their own destinations, Kai Bae beach.

The shot shows brilliant almost white sands, azure seas and distant mountains which may be similar to Thailand.

Several clues reveal the view is in fact the Sound of Harris such as lack of mangrove swamps and coconut trees.

The image is thought to have been lifted off the internet to save someone the effort of travelling to Kai Bae beach to take a fresh picture.

A VisitScotland spokeswoman said: "Here in the Outer Hebrides we are fortunate to have some of the most spectacular scenery in the world, right on our doorstep.

"They do say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, so although the use of the photo of a beach on the Isle of Berneray to represent a Thai beach is somewhat misleading, I'm sure it is a compliment in disguise."

They should as well show a pic of Ao Klong Makok (near Ao klong Phrao) 15 years ago like this one.

There were only 2 bungalows at 20 bahts/night on the left of the Boat restaurant in the picture.

But nobody will ask why the bungalow was so cheap. Had a nice time there though.

TAT does not know that a picture can be send via internet... Or there is a lack of photograph in Thailand ?

Some island in Micronesia have top score for pictures taken to promote other beach places around the globe.

Truth hurts you lazy bunch of scumbags...
This campaign worked a treat in the UK when I was a kid...and people hated people dropping rubbish...anywhere...litter bug, you were called and people stared at you in disgust....the opposite here...par for the course I'm afraid.

I've got footage and many photo's of Samui the island of 'paradise' (yeah right) from 2006...gross doesn't even come close..I hope that it's got better..???

Scots beach mistaken for Thai resort

Luxury beach resort in Thailand using picture of Scottish beach to promote area.

Thailand's tourist board is using a picture of a Scottish beach to promote one of its luxury resorts.
Bermerary beach, off Harris, on the west coast of Scotland, is featured on promotional material.
Thai Tourist Board have used a picture of the Scots beach to promote one of its luxury resorts - at Kai Bae in Koh Chang.
The Thai resort sits in the Indian Ocean and is currently basking in temperatures of 32 degrees.
Both locations do enjoy white sandy beaches but on closer inspection the Scottish location does expose rugged hills.
A spokesperson for the Thai Tourist Board said they were "unsure" how the picture came to be used.
Riddell Graham, of VisitScotland, said: ''There's no surprise if countries throughout the world are looking for the best scenery, they're going to find Scotland coming right up there in their search engines as they're going round the web.
