[quote=Dancing Priest;1182495]actually, there is a reason he posts the way he does:
he figures that if he lurks around, looking for a reason to post insulting remarks, that he is adding value to the forum, and that everybody is just holding their breath in anticipation, waiting for the latest insult, or "korny krack" from drAndy:
then he feels all warm inside , safe in the knowledge that his little bum-buddy, ant, will soon be along to join in with some more insults and little kiddies' name-calling.
just handle them like you would have done any other nerd when you were a kid at school........
either ignore them, or swat them off, but don't even bother offering a defense, or posting any logical answer in reply, because you will just be wasting your time.
they have these "copy-and-paste" word doc's that they use on anybody who clashes with them, and they think that everybody is impressed when they use them, but the truth is that they are so predictable, so repetitive and so fkkn boring that most people on this forum have had enough of their shit!
brrrzzzzt, brrrzzzt!
beep!. ting, ting
redirecting, please be patient..........:
hello, insect!

They aren't - it's been my experience that usually 'a certain class of' people attract the terrible experiences with Thais they invariably talk about - 'nuff said.
Most Thais I know are generous, honest people - this isn't to say that there aren't the occasional loser or dishonest rip off, but they are in the minority, by far.
What a great thread, with the expected negative inputs from the same old crowd. It has been a lifetime since I was in Thailand, then it was in Udon Thani at the Royal Thai Air Base so Udon Thani was the view I came home with. I loved the year there, met some very nice local people. Had a very pretty Thai girlfriend and truly enjoyed learning about the Thai culture and the bit of language I learned. The average G.I. there was concerned only with getting drunk and getting laid, all important for sure but being an ass was never my way of life so I chose to enjoy the people and place. Of course there are bad people (bar girls), if your life revolved around loud music and drunk foreigners who refuse to learn common courtesy and all want to fuck you as cheaply as possible, wouldn't you be a little sour?
For you folks who actually live there, outside the tourist traps, I'm certain you have witnessed the gentle nature of the majority. The few locals who drop into bad habits seem to get their come-uppance eventually..... may take a club to the head to make them see the light so to speak.
If you don't like it there, leave! There are plenty of shit hole places in the world, you might enjoy more!
Just my humble opinion,
Shiloh Jim
Welcome Shiloh.
And yes, they are a beautiful people, with a beautiful nature.
Ok, I'm sure I've told this story before, but while Mum & I were both living in Thailand, Mum went back to UK for a short while. While she was gone, the dog centre was getting no donations in & I began to run short of money myself. I decided to sell a white gold/diamond cross pendant I had to tide us over. The jewellery shops I took it to wouldn't touch it - it was too farang style, so I asked my BF to help me sell it. He sold it within a few days & gave me the agreed price.
Shortly afterwards, a friend asked him to help setting up a new bar, so he was out a lot, with his regular job & helping out his friend.
Many months later, we held a fundraiser for the dog centre - an auction - and were asking businesses & individuals for items to auction. My BF handed me my diamond pendant to auction. I asked him how on earth he had it. It turned out he'd been unable to sell it, so he took out a short-term loan with a bit of a shady character to give me the money I needed. That's why he'd taken the second job (turns out he was getting paid for it), to pay back the loan. He had never let on & was giving the pendant back so 'it' could help a second time.
Pardon me for being a newbie - I only read this thread as it was mentioned on the weekly email I get.
I have just one question. If so many posters in this thread hate the Thais as much as they seem to then why the heck are they still in the country?
Or is it that some people have to find someone else to take the brunt of their own dissatisfaction with their lives.
For a while now, I have tried hard to work on the premise that happiness is wanting what you have rather than having what you want.
^The love/hate relationship is common to varying degrees among expats in every country. I've seen foreigners in Japan go completely mad, albeit generally in rather different ways than I have seen farangs do here (I mean in Thailand, not on Teak Door, although I've seen that, too). Otherwise, it is probably easy to generalize too much when it comes to farangs, as it is with Thais, when it comes to explaining why they do what they do. Most farangs probably have a combination of reasons for staying or leaving. There are conceivably very good reasons for staying in a place one doesn't like, although for the sake of mental health it is probably a good idea to find a way not to hate the place one lives in (duh).
