    Obsolete

Was sorting through my books, CDs & dvds today, choosing which to take & which to sell/swap/chuck.

I came up with a fair pile of CDs I didn't want & wondered what to do with them. I considered giving them to a bar & then it hit me that I must be one of the few people I know to still own CDs, as most people download their music now.

And to think CDs were innovative when I was in my teens. When I moved out to HK in 1990ish was when I got rid of my collection of vinyl.

Found this list today, of other things fast becoming (or completely) obsolete...

OMG!! That is so true. I miss all of that stuff. I guess we are just getting old.

I noticed that you said "choosing which to take" Where are you going? If you don't mind me asking?

^ Going back to UK after 15 years in Asia. Only taking a few bits & pieces as I'll be able to buy stuff again cheaper than transporting it.

Yep, I have gave away most of my DVDs now also. In the UK I collected VHS vids, and then here DVDs, and now my collection is all stored nice and neatly in my computer.

I expect the only thing that will change now is that the files get updated as better copies come out for new films.

    Same with music.

It's already been written and discussed bsnub in the members only section - when you're up to 100 posts you'll be able to read it.

    (I think it's 100? )

Unless you have a disparate need to get your baggage weight/size down keep it all. The collection of vinyl you scrapped is worth a whole lot of money today. Could be the other "obsolete" stuff you have will go the same route.

I must be ancient as I don't know anyone who downloads music, the thought of being without my Cd's is too horrible to contemplate. Mp3's cannot be handled or more importanly signed by the singer. I have about 100 signed by Thai singers and only another 400 to go, Mp3's are like fast food.

    15. 3-D movies meaning red-and-green glasses.

Funny that one - TrueVisions (or whatever its called) is screening 3D programs at the moment (8pm, forget which channel, 20 on my TV), and my kid sits each night with his red and green glasses (think they came in the TrueVisions mag).

But doesn't it need to weigh 20kg or under?

NR, I would like your CD collection if you decide to give them away, I'll pay the shipping as long as it's not too much.

^ I doubt you'd want the ones I'm getting rid of Lim (there's only about 15 of them, now littl'un's rescued some he liked). They're pretty much all ones left over from my parents. If you want to take the chance, though, pm me your address & I'll gladly stick em in the post for you.

I meant to say, I'm keeping most of them.

    Hi NR

Glad you don't abandon too many of them.

But you can always rip them on the PC using a free program like CDex and store them on a hard disk or DVD as MP3.
I understand you don't take a PC but you could take out the hard drive and store a lot of info on that. Like loads of pictures and CDs.

    Something you'll regret.

    I've got some 'Japan' 12" in 'cake-tins' & I'm convinced they'll be worth a fortune one day!

    Hope the move's going okay.

    I already do.

I had picture discs. I had the first Big Country album (can't remember what it was called. Big Country???) in different label colours and I had an original of 'Build me Up, Buttercup' by the Foundations. Then it became famous years later in 'Something about Mary'. Aaah, well. Them's the breaks.
