"I'm an outsider by choice, but not truly. It's the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out. I'd rather be in, in a good system. That's where my discontent comes from: being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin' straight ahead. Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

Things do not make me "happy." Financial security is nice, but it's a different story, because in the OP, it's not about security. The moral here is that it doesn't matter how many brand new treadmills or lat-pull machines you buy, it won't make you any less lonely.
And whether king or street sweeper, we'll all have a date with the Grim Reaper.
I like it Scamp.
I often take a couple of months off work in between jobs if I can afford it.
Most people think I'm a lazy [at][at][at][at] though.
I think I don't waste my money on half the shit they do and so I can have a holiday.
Each to their own.
If you only work enough/fish enough for a day-by-day existence, you work until you die.
That appeals to some. But not all.
Others prefer to work their balls off and retire comfortably. That appeals to some, too.
Is one method preferable over the other?
It depends what age you live to and how much you enjoy your job.Originally Posted by Texpat
Yeah, I used to do this also, and hopefully I can do it again someday in the future.
I'd work, and save. I'd put money away for old age, and I'd save to travel and see and learn about the world.
I lived in a small studio and drove a nice car that was paid for, reliable, but not brand new or flashy.
When I would do this, many in the US thought I was lounging at a pool sipping on margaritas staying in 5-star hotels.
Some understood what I was doing. Many didn't.
That's OK. Too each their own.

Let's face it, we all work until we die, in one way or another.
There are few who can guarantee that they have saved enough, or have an index linked pension to survive in retirment.
I think a poor fisherman who has little to lose, is better off than a retired banker, who hopes he will get a return on his savings to support his rich lifestyle.
Who has the most to lose, and who has to make the biggest change to his lifestyle?
Nyone got a fishing rod for sale?

Several. But if you want to make big money, dynamite is your best investment.Originally Posted by chassamui

But,That reminds me, does anyone have a spare guitar?"I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, and take a siesta with my wife. In the evenings, I go into the village to see my friends, have a few drinks, play the guitar, and sing a few songs...I have a full life."
But, the point is 'what do they do when they retire?'.Originally Posted by Texpat
The same as what Pedro has been doing (and enjoying) all his life.
Has this race started yet? Wheres the finish line?

He can always eat the bait, they don't use maggots for sea fishing do they?
