How long can you close a country for?

I've been thinking about this all day.

How long can a country like THailand be effectively closed.

It won't take much more thinking before the PAD lot block all airports.

Would they go as far as blocking the border crossings? They might well do.

Presumably impossible to block boats though.

There was some figure out yesterday that the closer of Swampy was costing $1.5b per day. not sure if that is too much or not. If that is true, this is day 2 $3b now. Dong Muang shut - how much there?

So how long do you think they can keep Thailand closed?

Its not realy a question of how long, its more a question of how low does the country want to sink.

The real damage (which seems to be missed so far) in closing the airports is not the people, its the FREIGHT that is carried through airports.

Legal and financial documents, spare parts, medicines, high value raw materials and shit I can't even begin to imagine.

And thats going to hurt industry, economy and buisness. The longer it goes on the more it will hurt. much more than a week, and I think you could start to see real damage to certain sectors of the economy.

Forethought and planning ahead have never been Thailand's strong suit.

For fear of giving PAD an idea, taking over the shipping ports would be a far more effective approach to really impact the Thai economy. With no goods going in or out of the country the government would be under much more pressure to resign than the closure of the airports.

Is that what they want though? To impact the economy or are they just trying to make people lose face?

Medical condition? Fly where? Bangkok has a couple of the best medical facilities in the world. As to fund shortage......Embassy? Though, some national missions are more receptive than others when concerning themselves with their citizen brethened.

It has already hit Samui, Tesco has reduced their cashier staff.
Can you believe having to queue for 20 minutes, outrageous it is.

You are joking right? Bangkok has a couple of decent hospitals. But best in the world? A long, long way from that I am afraid.

Obviously, you're not aware of this. BKK has a couple of world renowned medical centres.

Don't know about that one matey, you'd go a long way to top Bumungrad Hospital, definitely nothing in Australia would give it a run for its money.

Gone on then- give me a giggle. Which "medical centres" would you suggest are "World renown". Now, you are going to be expected to back it up with a list of world class cutting edge medical practices, advanced therapeutic regimes, and preferrably a full range of medical research programs.

    Off you go:
