^Probably true, although I have a friend who has one. He was playing around with it last week and it looked pretty cool. Much better than my piece of crap phone, anyway.
Just checked ebay - the average price is about $400 for an unlocked iPhone, although many are going for $500 - $900.
I wonder how much the are in the Phom Penh markets?

I use an i-phone, and I'm very pleased with it.
Take note that almost every new phone being produced (examples above) is being billed as a challenge to the i-phone.
Says it all really.
Apple's i-phone have set a new standard - If Apple had not produced the i-phone the industry would still be selling you their crappy old technologies.
No it doesn't. Omnia is about $800 unlocked and without contract.Originally Posted by durianfan
Copy iPhones are available in Panthip and MBK for under 5,000THB.
^Did you read my last post? I just said that unlocked iPhones are going for $500-900 on ebay. This is without a contract. $200 gets you an iPhone, but with a 2-year contract with AT&T. I know Verizon charges $175 to break the contract, dunno about AT&T.
Copy iPhones are just that -- copies. Doubt they have the same software installed or perform as well.
SAMSUNG is pretty crappy in terms of mobile, got 3 and they all died in less than 1 year
Apple is a shit software company, but they rule when it comes to gay gadgets
HTC sounds promising,
20,000 THB is one month budget for whoring, need to think about that

AIS schedules 3G for Bangkok in Q1
Reuters reports that Thailand's leading mobile phone network operator Advanced Info Service (AIS) has announced a plan to expand commercial 3G services to Bangkok and other major cities in the first quarter of next year. GSM operator AIS launched a 900MHz W-CDMA/HSPA network in Chiang Mai in May, but its coverage and capacity is very limited. Thai regulator the National Telecoms Commission (NTC) has now given permission for AIS to import 3G/3.5G equipment for a wider UMTS-900 network rollout including the capital. The watchdog has also given the go-ahead for the country’s second largest GSM operator DTAC to import HSPA technology for a commercial 3.5G deployment using the 800MHz-850MHz band, also scheduled for the first quarter of 2009. DTAC’s CEO Sigve Brekke said earlier this week that he did not expect 2100MHz UMTS frequencies to be allocated until late 2009, although the NTC has promised licensing ‘by the second quarter.’

Oh well!
Had one since Dec 2007. Still running the same version. Yes, people called me gay and all that other shit. Dont care about it. What I do care about is that it lets me (in my line of work) allow me to do anything fast. I am not just using it as a phone only. If I just needed a phone for work I would just buy A PHONE.
Meanwhile people got used to me having such a thing after being called a homo by those same pub dudes.
The world has changed and so have those non-believers who are now using my phone in the pub more than I do.
Its always like this: Dude, can I borrow your Iphone cause I saw this hot VDO clip on my office desk top today, but I have no computer access. Or Dude, whats the weather like in Leeds?
My point being is that its such an easy to use device that now I would not want to be without it!
None of my old phones such as Samsung I600, HTC Touch and O2 stealth would ever match this.
All in all, a great phone and not gay at all.
I haven't been able to find a way.
AT&T tells me if I get the Apple 3g unlocked (can't buy the thing w/out a contract) in Thailand or wherever - no updates etc. etc. once I cancel the contract. Even was told that the damn thing would 'black out' when the contract was voided.
It ain't worth the hassle...
A Deplorable Bitter Clinger
Lets get it straight, Windows Mobile is on version 6 now and has been around for years. In that time the interface has always needed a little stick to use for navigation, then along come Apple and show how it should have been done all along. HTC have had to add their own front end onto the HTC Touch to make it look anywhere near as friendly as the iPhone, and of course underneath it is the same old crap windows interface. Look on the web and you will find hundreds of applications providing iPhone like skins, how sad for all the geeks with their obsolete interfaces.Originally Posted by Butterfly
So true! Google phone is coming soon and now Black Berry is following IPhone's steps. The new black berry will look the same as the IPhone. 5 million 3G Iphones sold over the last 3 months cant be all that bad can it?
However I must stress that 3G is pretty much useless here in Thailand.
I've had one for about a year now. Bought it in Singapore.
I really like it, the user interface is great.
There are other phones that do more but would you use the extra features and how user friendly are they. I've never seen anything that is as user friendly as the iPhone.
The big drawback for me is the SMS application. Although it looks cool and does what it does very well it is missing some key features for me namely, the ability to forward texts, send texts to more than one person and delete individual texts rather than a whole conversation. However early on I found an app called SMSD which does all those things.
I bought it unlocked but upgraded the firmware shortly after I got it and unlocked it myself afterwards. I'm a bit geeky though.
I haven't looked at another phone since so maybe in the year I've had it other things have overtaken it but I can't be arsed to change which is a recommendation of sorts.
^
so that's an I phone.
i wondered what that thing was.
the iPhone cool navigation and exceptional rendering was what sold me, but I am having second thoughts,
Why because of the sound advice I gave yesterday.Originally Posted by Butterfly

yeah, a lot interesting feedback in this thread, personal experience etc...

^ no, some import duty still applies at the airport, no VAT though
it had no duty, most products at the airport would be cheaper than there are in the rest of the world, and since this is not the case
