Would you give up your mobile phone?

Just read an article about mobile phone use with regard to brain cancer. Not so much if they actually increase the risk but, rather, what would you do if they found conclusive evidence that these marvels of communication actually lead to tumors? Would you decrease your use? Go cold turkey? Keep it plastered to your ear till you dropped dead?

Here's a snippet of the article and the link below.

What Would It Take to Make You Change?
What about you? Do you avoid holding a phone up to your ear, like these prominent neurosurgeons do? How much proven risk would push you to give up your cellphone entirely? What if instead of doubling your chance for cancer, the phone only increased it by 20%? Is that an acceptable risk? Or in that case would you expect to die from lung cancer or in a car crash long before other health problems kick in? All this writing has convinced me to go out and find a headset good enough that I might actually use it. And to up the amount of texts I can send a month. Not that there's necessarily a good reason to do either. That I know about. Yet.

Of course I couldn't give it up for any medical reason. The missus wouldn't be able to find me then which would piss her off.

Just like cars, micro-waves, calculators, ATM cards etc, mobile telephones are now a way of life and you couldn't function without these necessities.

Unfortunate but true and we have become a lazy lot.

Don't know, mine is turned off most of the time. I turn it on when I want to use it. It is more convenient than finding a public phone and carrying loose coins

I wouldn't really miss it at all. Like others, I don't like chatting on the phone.
I only make about four or five calls a month.
It's often uncharged and lost under a sofa cushion.

My wife finds it when hers runs out of money.

I don't have one. I had one, but I don't answer the phone and don't make phone calls so I thought it was pointless. Got rid of it a couple of years ago. It was a good clock, but now I have a batman one that I got free with duracell batteries and looks like one of those clip things you use for rock climbing, it did have a flashy red light at the top, but it's broken now. The sound of a ringing phone to me is alike the sound of the devil and i will not answer him.

    i mostly agree with that.

mine hasn't been turned on since the middle of last month.

unfortunately work will call my wife's number if they can't get me on mine.

^I managed to not give work my phone number for a couple of years with the old "I can't remember it" trick, which I couldn't, but they know it now.

Hah! I don't own a mobile phone. I don't need one for work and I'm buggered if I will carry one at home. All I'll get is the missus ringing up and hassling me with "where are you, when are you coming home?". Or, "On your way home, could you stop at XXXX and buy some XXXX".
    Bollocks to that!

^^Who gives a shit if they fry your brains? They are the the most horrible nasty evil thing in the world, along with any other portable devices, ipods, laptops, walkmans. Every time I see people using these things I want to punch them in the head, bite their ear off and shove these portable parasites right up their anus and into their rectum.

I haul one around mainly for emergencies. I don't like to talk on the phone and rarely make or receive calls. I do text the GF now and then if I need her to pick up something on the way home from work.

Willy, you know like you are more of a materialistic, teenage Asian than a middle aged Aussie bloke, so can i ask you a question.
if you lost your mobile at lunch time today, how long would it be before you bought another?

Hope I dont bump into you on the Skytrain. Ipods and laptops rock ! Walkmans did in the 80's.
Ive had every gadgety phone under the sun, I now use a 900 baht Nokia. Now I work for myself I dont really need one thank god. I get about 2 calls a week which is more than enough. The wife may as well have hers bolted to her head.
