Ok, we got loads of smeg is a cnut threads going already, but if any of you lot could be foking bothered to search his first three threads he done here, you will find that each time he was attacked first, yes by KK, yet your all saying kk is the good guy, read the threads and see who attacks who first as this is getting ridiculous, yes we all know smeg hates the teaching industry here, but hell so what, what if he hates the building industry here, should I ban him for him telling me how crap most of the building is here? cos most of it is crap.

Prior to coming across them here, I had never heard of Smeg or KK before.

I confess I was a little surprised at the reception Smeg received when he first started to post, but given the content of his subsequent posts I am now not at all surprised that those who were aware of him took the opportunity to make their positions clear from the outset.

I have no problem at all with Smeg hating TEFL in general and KK in particular, I have no personal knowledge of the subject or the individuals.

What I do particularly dislike is that Smeg's contribution to the board seems to be exhausted already. Every thread as far as I can remember either has one theme or serves as a preamble to the introduction of that theme - "that the situation in Thailand is not to his liking and for some perverse reason others won't agree with him" - all the other sub plots, TEFL, backpackers, his being ripped off at every turn and so on and so on are just sub plots to the main theme.

I don't think he is dangerous, I do think he is unbalanced.

I don't think he is smart - if he has a talent, it is to wind up others who are less smart than him.

I don't think he is amusing - he simply ignores jibes about his more ridiculous assertions.

I do think he is tedious and repetitive - ignoring him would be the most sensible option, but most people have joined the forum to engage with other posters not ignore them.

I left him alone (well, kind of...) in his early stages here, with I think only a handful of posts. I just got struck in yesterday after seeing a raft of new threads, each starting with his attacks on TEFLers.

I couldn't let it pass without any comment.

As regards to him and KK, I must admit that I am personally unable to comment on who is "right" or "wrong"...too many pages have made it all too confusing. But I know who I value more as a member here...

I also have NO problem with Smeg attacking the TEFL industry. There are elements of truth in what he says about it.

What I can't abide is his broad attacks on TEFLers in general. He is collectively attacking the personal choices of a number of readers and potential readers of this forum...not just attacking their occupational choices, but also their education, social status, financial status and choice of spouse and home.

I really don't care about the target of his attacks being TEFLers. I am not a TEFLer (any more, anyway). I am not married to bargirl. I am well educated and financially well off, so any barbs aimed at me are misdirected.

But I would find his constant attacks offensive WHATEVER social group he chose to target.

can't he have an opinion a social group? Sure! But to remind all and sundry of it in every thread and most posts? Really...

And no, DD, his FIRST thread here "Life since hotseat" started off with an attack on that particular group.

So I cannot agree with you that he started harmlessly.

it's funny, my feelings (for what they are worth - ie fuck all) are almost the opposite.

I had heard all these Smeg horror stories both here and in ajarn but after reading his posts I don't see what all the fuss is about - he is practically the most normal guy around... of all of you he is the most like my rl friends who don't live in a self created fantasy world.

Now there is nothing with the fantasy that many guys in Thailand live. Given the way many of they have been (allegedly) treated the fact that they surround themselves with bar girls and discuss western women with a bitterness that (still) takes my breath away; the fact that they find themselves in a career for which they had neither planned or for which they are not suited; the fact that they live in a country and have so little respect for its people (all the somchai / Thai's are fools comments etc.).

Perfectly understandable... but only the norm among a very specific "inner" circle.

Then someone comes along from outside that circle and there is something akin to mass hysteria.

Smeg isn't "right" but then neither is anyone.

They only question I have is why does he post here... but I can answer that easily - by asking myself. I am after all from one of the most loathed groups in the "recieved society" of these boards - the vile and ugly western woman. Why do I post? I love being online. I like a challenge. I hope that I may make a small and utterly irrelevant difference by occaisionally expressing an opinion that will make people rethink their stance for a nanosecond, and that nanosecond may be enough to cause a tiny paradigm shift.

After several months of being around I have even grown to like some of you weird fucked up misfits, lol.

And after reading a couple of Smeg's posts I feel that the only thing wrong with his presence on the board is the extreme over reaction that follows his every word. He isn't a prophet he is a bloke with an opinion.

Read it and respond - stop acting like he just bitch-slapped your mother.

I agree with many of the things that he says about the teaching industry in Thailand...but the repetition of it gets so boring...every thread he has to mention it...

we all know that the building industry in LOS leaves a lot to be desired...but you don't ram the facts down our throats at every opportunity...

Seems this would describe someone from the other place better than here, as none of us are teachers or at least won't admit to it. (I think we've got one gay welsh consultant!)

Also don't think there is too much anti-thai sentiment on TD, we're too busy cooking chili or beans on toast and things like that.
