How much for an engagement ring?

It's for a non Thai teacher. Not completely sure I want to get married but a long engagement of a few years would make my mind up. I thought somethng silver and in the region of 500 quid would be perfect. Any comments? Good places to buy non gold ( looks tacky) jewelery? I was thinking the nearest Central....

could be a bit more specific maddie.
    shop around.
    styles and sizes vary dramatically.

in any case, way too expensive for a nice silver ring.

should be able to get one for around 100 quid.

I have learnt my lesson anyway.

the most expensive of the various commitment rings i have bought is now sitting under a metre of sludge at the bottom of the Bosphorus.

I have a book in mind following the story of that ring and the characters it comes into contact with along the way.

    500 bt, you mean?
Try Silom for something as bit classy, the gem&jewelry tower near Mahesak/Silom intersection features some unusual silver rings 50 Pounds iis a reasonable budget.

Show how much you love her, and go for a real expensive diamond ring, and she'll be yours forever...

I spent a similar amount on a custom made diamond engagement ring for my g/f, almost exactly 5 years ago, and we are still happily married with two small boys and a third on the way.

I took my soon-=to-be wife on a romantic weekend to a 5 star resort on Samui, and just after arriving on Friday evening (Valentines day!), at the end of a great meal in a private sala on the beach I showed her the ring and popped the question.

Price - high, expression on her face - priceless. Worth every penny!

So MD, If you are sure you have the right girl, then you probably won't be doing this again, so I suggest you bite the bullet and get a proper ring. For 500 GBP you should be able to get a decent one. Agree that most gold jewellry here looks tacky, but white gold is rather nice, and keeps its shine better than silver, too.

Good luck, and if you plan on popping the question, make sure you put some effort into creating a nice atmosphere. Most restaurants managers will be more than happy to assist with the planning arrangements (table, flowers, champagne, etc).

Wishing you both all the best!

I got Sandra's engagement ring last August.

At 300 baht it wasn't really that expensive but it turned out to be a waste of money anyway because it gave her an allergic reaction.

Whilst I was drunk, I stupidly promised the missus she could choose a ring to mark our 10th anniversary and she could have a budget of 100,000 Bt.

Like it. 1st quote maybe, 2nd quote definitely. Mine's (sorry hers) has lasted 2 years so far, we (sorry I) bought it from a jeweller in Chatuchak for 700k. It's very nice and has been valued at 1mill but who knows? I certainly don't.
I've resisted the Rolex, I think quality copies are the best choice here.
The Thais do have strange materialistic values. I know a Thai lady chef/restaurant owner back in the UK who stir-fries, etc in her genuine Rolex, I doubt she ever takes it off.

But for your 10th Anniversary, not an engagement ring. Now that's something to be proud of. May there be many more anniversaries.
