I think you'll find a lot of these guys being bumped off are nasty vindictive bastards who get drunk and cause trouble with all their neighbours. So CMN shouldn't have anything to worry about.

I'm actually quite surprised by this thread & the one in Moronic Kiddies. Yes, I'm sure we have all heard/read stories of farangs getting robbed/killed for money. Perhaps it's happened to us or someone we know. No-one would say it doesn't happen.

I would be very interested to see any verifiable statistics that prove that life for a farang in a rural area is more dangerous than life in a big touristy town (Pattaya springs to mind, but anywhere really), as I really can't see that that is the case.

Considering Smeg is always extolling the virtues of England, I'm amazed that he actually had the cheek to start this. Even in rural areas in UK, you can't pick up the local weekly rag without reading about a burglary; in city areas, hardly a day goes by without reading of muggings, rape & murder.

IMO, Thailand, rural or otherwise, is a lot safer for us Brits than our own country.
