Well, that's a bit disappointing, my hotels pool is of the overflow kind and doesn't have a skimmer box or if it does its well hidden.

I've got a wee table that needs sanding and varnishing, so just typed the following into google

    'teakdoor.com mendip varnishing table'

This thread popped up with Mendip's pool pics.

https://teakdoor.com/phuket-forum/19...ml#post3950560 (Getting rid of algae in your swimming pool)

Good to see that just like Mendy, it hasn't deteriorated with time.

Sand with heavy grit, then with light grit, then coats of Ronseal varnish, right?

^ After 16 years the pool area could do with a makeover, much like meself.

I would have to say that despite being well out of the 10 year warranty, the pool has been completely problem free and is a rare success story at this place.

I wood use oil rather than varnish for a nice finish on your table.

What on earth is a 'ball smear'. That isn't even in my day to day vocabulary.

It's really strange... Birmingham is just up the road from Bristol yet it seems to be from a different world.

Anyway, I was out for the afternoon with the daughter and when I arrived home I couldn't help noticing that there'd been some activity in the kitchen.

    I took a look at Level 3.

Multi story plastic piece of shit contents: Some kind of a foul-smelling chilli sauce I reckon.

No sooner had I taken out of the ppos than a fly alighted. That was one brave greenbottle.

^ Thai flies are relentless. No fear, no care. More fish sauce the better.

Didn't post a pick of the skimmer as there was absolutely nothing in it. This time of year is common.

^ Yeah, it's slim pickings this time of year on the skimmer box front, but all recordings are important.

I'm away next week mate, so please can you keep the thread going for a few days?

If you can get into the box, you should leave a chocolate candy bar and some condoms in it to be discovered by the staff. Maybe something like feathers and a chicken's foot.

So, what's something you could put into a hotel skimmer box to get a reaction?

My skimmer box is a dry as my busted-ass pool but in my old place the strangest things I ever found were a rat and a duckling. The duckling was especially sad as I had rescued all the ducklings from the pool, into which they had jumped during a storm, and could not get back out, by adding a wooden ramp. But it was hand-held and after I removed it one of them must have jumped back in.

I will see if I can dig out the photos of them still swimming round in the storm.

It looks like they gave the amari a bit of a tidy up the closed it when they closed the airport . I doubt the pools had any money spent on it. Oh well ,we will see what the next skimmer box has to offer. All part of the lfun

^ Sadly, Stumpy seems to have left me to carry on with this thread alone. Pretty selfish of him, imho.

I've stopped the daily skimmer box updates due to lack of interest, on my part and most others I would imagine. I wish I'd never started the thread, if truth be known, but I did so I'll press on.

I'll just do the occasional highlights now until the next rains come when things can get more interesting. At the moment we're getting a lot of ash in the pool but this tends to sink so doesn't make it to the skimmer box.

    Christmas Eve.

    New Year's Eve.

Skimmer Box Contents: Chlorine tab (20% consumed), baby common frog, millipede, variety of leaves

This morning the wife is at the Maharat visiting her sister - I'll avoid sharing any personal thoughts... - so I took the opportunity to clean up the house a bit and bin a lot of 'essential' junk that will never be missed.

While doing this, I couldn't help noticing that we currently have a full house in the POPS (piece of plastic shit) so I risked a gander...

Each layer has a clear, plastic sliding door and again, I wish I could somehow post the smell that emanates on sliding open each door, to give some idea of the true horror of an Isaan kitchen. These doors seem to keep big flies out but along with the awful smell, a raft of tiny black fruit flies waft out when each door is slid back.

We have perfectly good fridges but apparently that's not the 'Thai way'... it's much better to leave everything in the room temperature of our kitchen for days on end.

Level 1: A tasty morsel of pickled cabbage

Level 2: A boiled egg with some really foul smelling sauce, no doubt a type of pla ra (containing mashed fermented fish). And this won't be a hard boiled egg... it will be soft boiled so that you can enjoy the experience of cold, congealed egg yolk and snotty white soaking into the steamed rice.

Level 3: What appears to be the dried up, rear end of a small tuna or maybe a sardine accompanied by God knows what. Surprisingly this wasn't the smelliest level.

Level 4: I am guessing some kind of a pale-coloured pla ra variant. This absolutely stank and no joke, I did a surprise waft of the bowl under the daughter's nose and she wretched.

Level 5: It looks like your run of the mill chilli dipping sauce. The penthouse probably contained the most normal looking treat of the lot, although I still wouldn't risk dipping my spring roll into it.
