How did Sausages get on?
Bennetston Hall, Dove Holes, Derbyshire, June 2019 | Derelict Places - Urban Exploring Forum
Bennetston Hall was built in the late nineteenth Century by local doctor and property speculator Robert Ottiwell Gifford Bennett MD (1834 – 1902). Occupying a dramatic hillside location with a commanding view of the Derbyshire High Peaks, it is set in 10 acres of land including an impressive 2-acre trout lake. It comprises of a substantial country mansion and coach house constructed from coursed gritstone walls with gritstone detailing and has a number of significant and design features.
In the 1930’s it was acquired by the YHA and became a Youth Hostel. After World War II, Bennetston Hall saw usage as a private dwelling, a nightclub and a hotel. The house was badly damaged by fire in the mid-1980s and this resulted in it falling into a sorry state of neglect and disrepair. The Peak Planning Board refused planning permission, back in September 1987, to turn the coach house into a residential dwelling. In October 1989, the then-owner, a Mr Adshead, was locked in a contractual dispute and was then ordered to pay the claimant’s costs incurred by the Legal Aid Board back. After a protracted legal battle, the hall was granted to the possession of the Legal Aid Board in 1996. However due to Mr Adshead suffering from a terminal illness and the resulting protracted legal battle it wasn’t until March 2012 that the Hall was put up for sale by auction on the instruction of the receivers at a guide price of between £150,000 and £200,000. The developers, Puro Property Partnership of Knutsford, who bought the hall at auction obtained planning permission to convert the hall into five luxury apartments and a self-contained house. The coach house was subsequently sold off for £170,00 in October 2013.
It then all becomes a bit murky. However, in 2017 it appeared the hall had turned the corner when it was acquired by Chimp Management as the corporate headquarters of the charity with conversion to a dedicated conference facility together with 32 bedrooms. Additionally, the restoration would include the reinstatement of the hall’s original roof-line with castellated gable and the restoration of the Coach House including a link via a single storey glazed passage to the main Hall. However, despite these ambitious plans, and conditional planning permission to go ahead with the work, little has changed, and the hall remains empty and at risk.
Nice sleuthing, interesting history.
I bet that untouched Trout lake is full and ripe for some poaching.
I could see the place working as a ramblers YHA, but the investment needed would put most off.
Cheers
The question is, wtf has KW and his management team done since taking it on, apart from throwing their poo around the place.
The coach house has been restored and is usable. It's on AirBnB if you're interested.
The coach house @ Bennetston Hall is an 8 Bedroom building with a large living/dining room. Set on the grounds of the once prestigious, now derelict, Bennetston Hall, with Panoramic views overlooking our 2 acre lake.
We have 5 single bedrooms with en-suite facilities. Two of the en-suites on the ground floor are equipped with grab rails to assist people with mobility issues. Additionally, we have 2 rooms with small double beds and en-suite facilities, and one room with a standard double bed also with en-suite. All our en-suite rooms have showers. While our kitchen is relatively small for the size of the property, it is fully equipped with all the essential amenities. Please note that our property is quite isolated and there is no footpath on the main road outside, so reaching places on foot can be challenging. The nearest towns are located a 10-20 minute drive away.
Guest access
You will have private access to the full building as well as plenty of room to park a number of cars outside.

They say that 'necessity is the mother of invention'.
No more clinking bottles on the back seat for us!

My niece's new baby kitten.
Sitting on a beach near to Donsak, where the ferries leave from to go to Samui and Phangan (you can see several in the distance). As is my nature, I decided to move back to stay on Phangan, (where ( lived about 2 years ago). My plan to relocate to The Philippines is still on the table, but I'm also working on a project which could create a residual income in my dotage.
I'm not on the ferry today 'cos it's fully booked until Tuesday....
By the way, I rented a basic car from Paul in Pattaya, who always rents me basic, reliable cars for my needs. Well, this time he said if I rented it for 12 months, then I can keep the car for free! Have to say he is a top bloke! (Maybe no one else is willing to rent a pink car, dunno....!)
Groping women when you're old is fine - everyone thinks you're senile

A real genuine hot dog van!
I can remember back in the mid eighties when in Piccadilly gardens in.my city there was one takeaway.
A hot dog van similar to the one above.
There were no kebabs, burgers, chippy's, pizza places open.
Maybe one curry house were the Malmaison hotel is now.
The menu on the hot dog van was simple.
Hot dog 20p
Hot dog with onions 25p
The queues were long but went down quick like the hot dogs.
How times have changed.
I sound like a right old bastard now.
Shalom
All this talk of hot dogs has inspired me to bang some in the airfryer, served with a sweet chilli dip..
Nice photo of the beach on er..... Koh Lanta, not Phangan
As per my previous post, I planned to stay a while (again) on Koh Phangan.
Not a chance! Since my last stay some 18 months ago, the island has been invaded by Russians. The little house in the coconut trees that I previously rented for 7,000 baht a month now rents for 24,000 baht. There are building sites 'owned' by Russians everywhere. I chatted with a Thai owner of 5 rather dilapidated small houses in the trees. He had rented them for 5 years to a Russian at a lowish rate, and then saw the Ruskie advertise them on Airbnb for 5 times the price, (and filling the houses with customers). The Thai's lack of marketing skill has left him unhappy at the exploitation.
So I couldn't afford to rent on Phangan. I went to Koh Lanta and rented a nice little house in the trees, but just 500 metres from the beach, for 10,000 baht a month.
Yeah, the BiB seem to have been pretty busy on Pangan over the last year or so.
Mainly with overstays.
It's worth considering Koh Payam off Ranong.
Took my BIL into the mountains on the ATV and as we sat I saw this fella sitting on a big leaf.
Perfect camouflage.
^ The one sitting on the fern leaf in the background has better camouflage, I reckon.
^ Looks like you've been to Weston-Super-Mare!
As far as I could tell it's just a fancy, open air urinal?
Yes, Weston. From a distance that thing looked a bit like a Chedi so I ventured closer. I'm not sure it's a urinal, but those northern Somerset folk get up to some strange stuff so it could have been. There's a closed door on one side and what looks like a closed hatch on the other side. Perhaps they sold stuff there once upon a time, but it's in a bit of a mess at the moment.
Going postal Lanna style, you look for a postbox then a load come together
