Most of the offshore guys I know in Phuket retire by about age 50-55 it seems.
Well let's see I am a Electrician, I am in pretty good shape ,I am ex service and I am in Iraq right now ,being away from home for long periods of time. I can mostly spellBut I think I can pretend either way.
The Offshore Bar?
No. I live a quietish life in Chalong. Mostly go out to Chalong and Rawai.
If I go to Patong, there are far better places than Nanai.
You need to be an industrial sparky with experience in hazardous area installation and very skilled at fault finding .Originally Posted by bbigman21

If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.
I dont know how old that is but I think you will find the wages have gone up a bit since thenOriginally Posted by phunphin
With all the sacrifices these guys make regards being away from family and the like, it would be expected to retire on a nice wedge by 50 years old.
After all is said and done thats why these guys do this job so that they can earn a shite load of money and retire early.
The smart ones do just that and the Gumbies piss it all up against the wall.
No idea what a "gumbie" is but i got a feeling Rigger might be in training for itOriginally Posted by chinthee

If one did not have anything to come back to except a bank full of money they could fall into the old trap of working for weeks at a time with no beer , woman or outlets and then spend the off time getting pissed up every night and end up drinking themselves to death.
It can be a trap for the younger guys but the fellas who have a home and family to support them do extremely well and Ive seen both sides to this industry.
How the fuck do you get that all important rig experience then?
Normally by starting off in your home country then you move into the international rigs as a supervisor as all jnr postions are taken by nationalsOriginally Posted by mrsquirrel
I heard the scariest part of the job offshore was taking the copter trip back and forth each month. You generally don't survive if they go down.
Here I am now down to three white guys the rest are now all Arabs/ indian or Thai all Cheap labour as well as having labour laws forcing us to hire Arabs.

Unfortunately, that's very true, not just for the North Sea, but, everywhere.
Most experienced oil field workers get a job from someone they know, or, from someone they know who knows someone else.
Not good, but, that's the way it is.
bloody animals for the most part arent they?
It use to be pretty bad years ago but now days with HSE they are pretty stricked on them. No grog No fighting No drugs well atleast on the rig.Originally Posted by slimboyfat
