Depends how much you consider is "killing the pig".

Somehow, I don't think a Perth Fireman is in the same league as a driller, especially when you take tax into consideration. Rig people usually don't pay any.......

But Im not sitting out in the middle of the ocean or a desert for weeks at a time doing fly in fly out work away from family, friends and civilization either.

Thats the only reason you guys get the big money, but you pay a price for that don't you.

Us Perth firefighters are doing very nicely thank you and Ill just keep driving around in my fire engine and coming home at night whilst you are thinking about getting home to your family but cannot.

I was offered work on the rigs in Fort MacMurray. I just didn't want to be a toolpush. Hard on the nails.

Well if you are a mechanic or a electrician you have a good chance to get on the rigs, as for the rest its pretty hard unless you go back to your home countrys and get some experince.

No mate I dont have any poms here and if I did they most probably wouldnt last long. But saying that getting a job being crewed out of your home country I would say they would prefur ex forces. I think it help me get my first break and held me in good stead for all the abuse I had to cop when I started

Just curious. I've met lots of offshore guys in Phuket, more than elsewhere in Thailand. Why did so many of them choose there?

Offshore guys need to live somewhere not far from an international airport.
Sometimes you are given less than 24 hours notice to go somewhere.

Well let's see I am a Electrician, I am in pretty good shape ,I am ex service and I am in Iraq right now ,being away from home for long periods of time. I can mostly spell But I think I can pretend either way.

Theres a lot of them living around Pattaya too.
