During the day I smoked a whole lot of dope, surfed a whole lot, read a lot of Louis L'Amour novels and basically hung out at the beach. At night I went to the high school extension courses because I had been kicked out of regular high school for smoking dope, wagging school to go surfing, not paying attention in class and some other rather inoffensive stuff.

As usual frisco has blown me away with honest approach to his life and this forum with an excellent account of his formative years.
I also gotta say that I am well impressed wth Mrs Q posting this thread coz I wish I had thought of it.

When I was seventeen I was just finishing school and spent most of my days truant at the beach surfing. Partying was what we all did back then and I got to say that I had a ball.
I had just learned to drive and my brother (not Crackerjack, the other one) gave me a car that I called 'Urge'. It was a Wolesly1500(sp) and had a MGB engine that was so powerful that it would just break the drive axels if I accelerated from stop too quickly.
I was a surfer as opposed to a surfee which was very important back then. I dressed in Levi 501's and raglan sleeve T-shirts with a chest pocket. A sloppy joe (like the top I am wearing in the pic below) was allowed in winter.
My peer and I lived for the beach and the lifestyle.

I had several girlfiends during that period and lost my virginity to the Captain of Cremorne Girls High School in the back seat of Urge.

It sure was a great time in my life and I never actually finished school coz I got caught smoking dope in the 6th form room. I was told that I could finish school but would not be allowed sit the Higher School Certificate.
I wernt a bad kid. A bit of a rebel but I had another agenda.

I remember those Wolseley 1500s. The back axle was from the Minor 1000 range and was just about strong enough for the standard 1500 engine. Lucky that the half shafts were so easy to change.

Yeah. I changed umpteen axel splines. It got to a point were I had to carry two spare axels in the boot.

I bet the Cap's wasn't as clean as this one.

Maybe we should have a 'Cars we've owned' thread - that should be fairly uncontroversial.

I had already planted the vermin seed and had a 5 month old kid by the time I was 17. Always in trouble and on probation for offenses ranging from assault to breaking & entering to possession. Except for science I never had any grades below a solid C but I decided to drop out of high school and join the Navy 3 weeks after I turned 17. The primary reason being that I was forced to change high schools for my senior year because part of the plea bargain to stay out of the boys farm was to stay out of the county until I turned 21. The Navy took me too the streets of Japan, Korea, Philippines, Australia, Mombasa, Karachi, Hong Kong and Singapore during my years as a 17 year old. They had some kick ass weed in Mombasa and the PI back in those days. Can you imagine going to the PI 4 times a year as a 17 year old ?

I know many people who refuse to grow up. For how many years were you a 17 year old?

(from 5 yrs old to) 17 (and much later) ...study, study, study and more study - something like 10-15 hours a day, 6 and a half days a week. Every week , the year round.

Never deprived of anything but lived a very regimented life at: 7 wake up, breaky, off to school and back, lunch, tutored studying, dinner, homework review with Father and more study. 21.00 Hrs lights out. Once I was tucked in, Parents went off to play Bridge somewhere (and I would hop on to my bicycle off to the nearby redlight district).

Mass on Sundays was a welcome break to the monotony, and that turned me into a fornicating non believer at a very early age (13) and ever trying to get into the nickers of every female tutor my Folks imposed on me.

Television maybe an hour or two a week..under parental vigilance of course (fok knows why since there was just one channel back then).

Long hair? My head looked like a tooth brush; every monday Father marched me off to the barber shop around the corner (I always thought this to be a waste of $ since there was FA to cut).

Dope? took first drag off a joint in my early twenties and guess what? With my luck it turned out I was sort of allergic to the shit!

Crimes? Not even a traffic ticket. De facto, I just learned how to relieve the general pubblic of wast amounts of money via a contract and break, when necessary, every rule in the book via their built-in loopholes.

Moral of this long BS rant:
-control yer kids but don't stiffle them. Anything you do, you can't prevent them from fucking when the time is right (for them).

    furthermore

-a well planned out boring life, careerpath will invariably lead (proviso that one does not croaked from stress prior and/or is a prisoner of spouse) to places like Thailand where finally it all comes together and LIFE takes on an entirely different connotation and it all seems -finally- like there is something WORTH LIVING for.

I was still at school too, studying for my A and S levels

blew them though, we played too much bridge instead of studying

Applied to Uni, but my headmaster refused to give me a reference!!

I did not go until later, at 25, and got into a London college easily

I later completed my doctorate..so stuff my old headmaster!!

I was one of the "cool" pack at 17, we used to hang out in cafes in Soho, mix with gays (then they were illegal) smoke dope in Brixton. We thought we were great!! obviously we weren't! just a bunch of teenagers being teenagers, and not as mature as Ice, for sure.
    I have reported your post

Well Doc I'll do everything possible to get this thread binned cos it reminds me of my hard working days when I was 17. I don't remember having fun or enjoying when I was a teenager. All I remember is I was working my arse off to earn some money to pay for my fee.

Mrs. Q you made me sad with your this thread.

Don't want to be rude Mrs. Q. With some hard work I've already saved a bit for the rainy days. Even if I don't have a job I'm sure survival won't be a problem for the next few years. So don't you worry about me mate.
