    In Japanese schools, students don't get any exams until they reach 4th grade. Why? Because the goal for the first 3 years of schooling is not to judge the child's knowledge or learning, but to establish manners and develop character.

    The Japanese teach manners before knowledge, since one is an investment that provokes and encourages the other.

    The Fukang meteorite, named after the town in China's Xinjiang provinvce near where it was found, considered by many as the most beautiful extraterrestrial space stone. It was discovered in 2000 by a hiker who was fascinated by it and often sat on it to rest and eat. Out of curiosity, one day he took a hammer and chisel to cut some pieces off, and found it had translucent golden crystals and other metallic crystal components. He sent samples to the US and they confirmed it to be a rock from space, probably around the same age of the Earth, 4.5 billion years, and possibly a piece of debris from planet formation.

    Holding part of the Fukang meteorite.

    The 1,003 kg wonder was placed in auction at Bonhams New York, where it was expected to fetch around $2m, but it was left unsold as potential buyers instead were attracted to a lump of fossilised dinosaur dung which was about 130 million years old and sold for $960.

    It was later cut in half and polished to provide a view of the gem areas of the meteorite.

    According to Royal Navy records, some 37,000 people lost their lives before Krakatoa blew bits of itself away.

    Considering the Himalaya range was made by the squeezing of tectonics, imagine what will happen when Australia crushes Papua and the PI...on its way to China and Russia!

    Turner's sunsets and Darkness by Lord Byron

    I had a dream, which was not all a dream.
    The bright sun was extinguish’d, and the stars
    Did wander darkling in the eternal space,
    Rayless, and pathless, and the icy earth
    Swung blind and blackening in the moonless air;
    Morn came and went—and came, and brought no day.

    were inspired by the effects of the Mount Tambora in Indonesia in 1815.

    T-rex died out 66 million years ago. Stegosaurus last walked the Earth 150 million years ago, separated by 84 million years.

    Good that the Dinos left accurate dated records of themselves, otherwise we would have to speculate.

    How do astronauts in a space suit scratch an itchy nose?

    Since the Apollo missions astronauts have used a simple and effective fix, by attaching a small patch of Velcro to a prominent point on the inside of their helmet, and using the rough surface to scratch their noses.
