I think a lot of this ignores the fact that the Japanese were pretty brutal colonial masters.

The Brits got the Taiwanese addicted and the Japanese got them off of opium as one positive and also removed foot binding from Taiwanese women. As colonial masters go with all the famine and rape and pillaging I don't think any one country is going to get a medal. Look at the land grab from all of the farmers in South Africa today. Still having problems in all those S hole countries and the poor people in Canada having to put up with (see photo)![]()
^^Japanese profited from selling opium to the Chinese.

^Japanese sold it and the Japan govt taxed it. Same as the Brits before them.
Broke and narcotized colonists are alot easier to control.
Wonder who they sold all that opium to
^perhaps to the Japanese and all the workers at the Death Railway at Kanchanaburi![]()
Seems like I remember gramps saying there were about 2000 opium dens in Bangkok during and before WWII. I remember opium caravans going down main street in Chiang Mai when I first got here but that was a while back and my memory is sketchy. I'm sure you could google the answers.
By the CCP’s own accounts during the war, it barely played a role. Specifically, in January 1940 Zhou Enlai sent a secret report to Joseph Stalin which said that over a million Chinese had died fighting the Japanese through the summer of 1939. He further admitted that only 3 percent of those were CCP forces. CCP forces spent much of the early part of the war hiding in the mountains to avoid battle. As the KMT was decimated by the Japanese military,

“From 1937 to 1945, there were 23 battles where both sides employed at least a regiment each. The CCP was not a main force in any of these. The only time it participated, it sent a mere 1,000 to 1,500 men, and then only as a security detachment on one of the flanks. There were 1,117 significant engagements on a scale smaller than a regular battle, but the CCP fought in only one. Of the approximately 40,000 skirmishes, just 200 were fought by the CCP, or 0.5 percent.

Yes, the KMT and Japanese army could have defeated Mao had the Japanese army not decimated the KMT and assuming that the KMT would be willing to allign themselves with the Japs.
It's up there with what if I chose a different 7 numbers and won the powerball.
Colonial history hinges on little things. America had far more in common with the British than the French and yet an old American lecher that would resemble the average dude in Pattaya convinced the French to bankrupt their economy to support American Independence. The French had a terrible colonial history and yet were the saviors of the American colony. No way the French King's American support made any sense except for the guy who cut off his head. The Brits were really stupid to anger the Americans and the French at the same time same as the Aussies did to the Japanese. I see nothing but positives if America had stayed in the UK. Better beer. Better cheese. Better political system, no Civil war no slavery. What's not to like?
The Americans teaming up with the French and the Shah of Iran. The Russians teaming up with the Germans. There is an expression "Politics makes strange bedfellows" for a reason. Today Japan is one of America's closest allies. Probably a better friend than the British.
Some reverse Colonialism of a sort ramping up in Sth Africa right now, which will be the final nail in the coffin and the useless cvnts won't be able to feed themselves in no time (see Zimbabwe for a similar road-map to turn a productive nation into a total basket-case). I expect Bono and Geldorf will do some live-aide concerts to sort it all out though![]()
South Africa‘s parliament has passed a motion that could lead to the seizure of land from white farmers without paying them compensation.
Passed by an overwhelming majority of 241 votes to 83 votes against, the proposal to amend Section 25 of the constitution would allow expropriation of land without any financial recompense. It was put forward by the radical left Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party, whose leader Julius Malema told the country's parliament: “We must ensure that we restore the dignity of our people without compensating the criminals who stole our land....
