And while Thailand may be a mecca for medical tourists I've never been impressed with the prices for dental services.

I'd agree if you're comparing them to falsies. But I live and die by my gold implants.

And found this online re: ceramic implants:
Originally the first dental implants (1980’s) had two parts: the fixture (which goes screwed into the bone) and the abutment (where the prosthetic crown is cemented).

The improvements in new ceramic materials made it possible on 2000 to have the abutment part made of ceramic. This material was commonly known to be more tissue friendly than titanium.

In 2005, the CeraRoot full ceramic implant (fixture and abutment in one body/part) was introduced into the European market and in 2011 accepted by the FDA to be used in U.S. dental clinics. The main advantage of a one-piece zirconia implant is that it has no prosthetic connections, where bacteria can grow, and therefore have better gum health. Another big advantage is that the implant is 100% white. This means that no metal will ever be visible when smiling or communicating with other people.

But in the UK at last orders, you can buy two pints and drop your dentures in the second. This ensures that none of your mates drinks your second pint.

Agree. Keep your originals as long as possible. I've known a few who've had implants done, as has been described here, its a long road back to normal - couple months minimum.

Veneers, the whole thing - procedures + recovery - is about 3 days is what I've heard, pain completely gone in a week. Conservatively, they last 10 years.

Thanks for this thread, I'm motivated to go floss now.

I got a few veneers a while ago.

It takes you a while to stop biting your nails and cracking them, but any damage can be fixed with composite for just over a thousand baht or so.

The alternative is to get some implants.
Did the dentist say your face would change with the false teeth but not the implants?
    interesting,, thanks!

No, the lower ones are not so bad and kinda out of view but do need some work/implants/falsers.

A bit technical for me but as you suggest(wisely) I'd better do some research. Never heard of a 'maxilla'!

your appearance will only change if you do not replace the teeth after they have been removed. the soft tissues of the lips and cheeks lose their support and fall into the space previously occupied by the teeth.

Which doesn't 100% mean his looks will be worse. He may be extremely buck toothed.

So dentures would make the cheeks fall into the space? Therefore you recommend implants/bridge.

I've learnt a lot on this thread, and will not get my front two teeth out but get them crowned and then a bridge or implants. I'll shop around a few different dentists.
I've heard good things about Khon Kaen uni. When I had little money I used to go to the dental college but that was really a hit or a miss. Got good treatment at KK Kospital but only as I had a connection there and feeling "greng jai" about using that favour again. Plus I can afford private now.

Never heard that before. Would have thought once you plopped the falsies back in the ole pie hole you'd still look like the same old ugly geezer as before.

With the crowns, be a bit savy about the price of the crown that you end up using and the quote you are given.

I've got 3 crowns, 2 at the front and one molar.

The molar was about BHT 7,000 a few years ago.

The front crowns were about BHT 12,000 each, more recently and a different quality.

    Different material.

Also think about the colour of the crown before you order them. Shades of 'off-white' vary.

Good luck with it and let us know what you decided on and what it cost ... thanks.

For sure, I'll have to get nice white crowns to match the implants.
