Be interested to know how you go there Betty with the Dragonfly Black. I bought the cheapie PCM2704 for a handful of dollars and the improvement on the motherboard soundcard was a knockout. The sound system I am putting it through is decent stuff so the soundcard was the quality bottleneck.

The proper DACs seem to start about $150 so I am still in the market if they are a big enough further improvement.

Well, I've only tried it on the phone so far. The G3 has shite audio, so I had to download Audio Payer Pro ($10) to sort out the shite Android s/w (this isn't needed on the PC, and in the Dragonfly Black packet there is a 60 day Roon membership:

I was using Shure 215 in-ear phones which sounded ok as they aren't too detailed, but when I bought a pair of Shure 425 in-ear phones they sounded shite because they highlight a weak source the G3 via the LG player sounded shite (I actually preferred the 215s half the time). The upgraded player was an improvement, but not enough for the 425s to sound better all the time (which they obviously should). The DAC was a bigger improvement, and now the 425s do sound significantly better.

Was it worth it for the phone alone? Yes, I'd say so. (Although, buying a Sony xperia Z4 which comes with ok audio [just the chip DAC, not a good dedicated DAC like the Marshall London has, for example] and a good quality player and good headphones as standard would have been much cheaper for nearly as good results.) The problem is the shite G3 sound. The setup is too bulky though to use portably with the phone, imho.


Is this DAC really great? I suppose that'll become clear when I sort out the PC settings and test it out; I'll update you tomorrow or over the weekend.

A couple of new additions to the 1/48th miniature air war museum.

First up is a Messerschmitt 410. This aircraft replaced the disastrous Me210 which had in turn replaced the successful Me110, already featured on this thread.



Fitted with the humongous 500Kg BK5 50mm nose cannon which could target allied bombers from outside the range of their defensive guns and bring down a heavy bomber with one direct hit of an explosive round.



Nice detailing on the panel lines with every rivet standing proud.



The observant among you will notice something strange about this Me410. Yes it is in Soviet livery because this is a replica of the one example which was captured by the soviets during their advance on the eastern front and repainted and turned against the retreating nazis. A daring tactical coup of which the GF is immensely proud despite her only finding out about it yesterday when I told her.

Next up is an early D series Messerschmitt 109 in pre-war colour scheme.
