Thread: Wheels falling off

I've got this brain that cranks on full speed 24/7. Not that it's doing anything particularly useful, but I've never been able to shut it off. As I kid I was put to bed at 8 or 9, but never managed to sleep until midnight or later. When I became an adult and discovered alcohol it was a great relief. Finally a legal, easily available and effective way to turn my brain off.

I don't drink during the day and I don't like getting drunk. But I look at the four beers that put me to sleep every night as separate and distinct from whatever social drinking I do. I enjoy a beer with some evening meals. If I'm with friends who drink, I'll join in.

Please don't tell me that if I sobered up I'd be able to sleep. I was sober the first 20 years of my life and it didn't work!

but i am planning on stopping the cigs this weekend.

its just no fun going to the pub anymore since the smoking ban here.

I don't want to sound voodoo new age, but meditation has really helped me, BH. No religion, just learning how to calm your mind by yourself.

I'm game to try, but for me meditation is like reading poetry. After about 15 seconds my mind races off to something it figures is more important.

I don't have any problem with that at all. If God didn't want us to drink he wouldn't have invented yeast.

I have the same problem and I used to have to get swacked before I could sleep.
But you can learn to control that too.
If someone wants to drink, and it doesn't cause a problem in their life, then drink.
But to say that because I drink that everyone should is not correct, I know it is the way for people to try to say that it is right for some, if I drink and all my friends do the same, then I have no problem, but if I drink and they don't, then what?

i dont think god invented gun powder.

he did invent yeast though. but luckily someone discovered natural yoghurt will counteract it
