    Can anyone relate to this?

I rang a Thai friend to ask her to translate to the moto driver that I would like to go to the nearest Siam Commercial Bank.

He was on the phone nearly five minutes.

I worked out that if you took out all the "Khraps" and probable "Ka's" on the her end, you'd get the conversation down to three minutes.

That still leaves three minutes, and even the worlds most complicated language wouldn't take three minutes to translate 'He wants to go to the nearest SCB'.

This is a mystery of their daft language that I have yet to solve.
"I'm an outsider by choice, but not truly. It's the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out. I'd rather be in, in a good system. That's where my discontent comes from: being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin' straight ahead. Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

Stupid farang gits wouldn't know, that's why it took so long just to establish the name of the bank. Gotta admire the Thais for their patience.

Gotta admire a German that doesn't put an apostrophe in Thais.
Contrast this with certain jailed Aussie educators.

^ I'm not aussie if you mean me, I mean I know I often use an apostrophe in Thais and I should know better.

Do I not spend enough time on here without nitpicking over my spelling?

    Stop being so sensitive scamp.
You are neither in jail, an Aussie or an educator.... at least not of the formal variety.

I was drinking heavily the other night and then retreated to a friends abode to sample a few chunky late night spliffs.

I then embarked on my journey home by flagging down a passing taxi and proceeded to explain where I wished to go.

The conversation between myself and the said taxi driver seemed to take most of 30 minutes (it took a lot longer than it should have done) and eventually I arrived at my required destination.

Imagine my surprise when entering my home I looked at the clock and the journey had in fact only taken 10 minutes !

the other 4 minutes 51 seconds were spent discussing whether each had eaten yet and what it was they ate, whether each of them was hungry and what each of them wanted to eat soon.

Allow me to nitpick you all.
The plural of Thai is Thai, or the Thai.
Both Thais and Thai's are incorrect.

There was a farang fitness instructor on some Thai TV show, he was getting really pissed off - after every little thing he said, i.e. "Hold your breath for a second...then-" and the two Thai presenters would spend half an hour explaining what he'd just said until he explained the next tiny part of the movement, only for the same thing to happen again, a drawn out explination of jibber jabber 'khrap khrap khrap this and 'khrap khrap khrap' that, it's bollocks really the Thai language, when you think about it.

I love Thailand, and I love Thai people - they are as likeably daft as their lingo.

Incedentally, what would be the English equivilent of saying 'Khrap' after every fucking word?

^Mr Stroller sir: I hate to break it to you but "inculcate" is a verb not an adjective!.
    Certain noun derivatives exist!
Perhaps if you wish to invent a language of your own you should consult your superiors!

    'Innit' as in -

I'm gonna get some chips, innit.

My second wife used to drive me a crazy on the phone.

    A typical conversation went:

    Hallo,
    Who did you want?
    No.
    I see.
    Not at the moment.
I don't think I can help you there.
Possibly, have you tried yellow pages?
Not recently, but I used to live in Tooting.
    I'm sure you can.
    I don't like fish either.
It's fairly late but they might be in.
    Only on Thursdays and Fridays.
OK well I wish you luck.
    Good bye.

Me: (confused by this strange conversation) Was that a salesman?
She: No, just a wrong number.
    Lord, deliver us from e-mail.

Oh really? Who said it was?
Maybe that's why I used "inculcant" in my sig, not after extensive research to verify the legitimacy of such term, I should add.

Why don't you find out what it means and why they say it you moaning git. It's not a mystery - you just need to be arsed to learn something about the country - hint: Phibun Songkhran. Do you whinge in your sleep too? I reckon that guy who died in front of you earlier commited suicide after 5 minutes of listening to your insights on Thailand.

Thai people dont seem to care about being seen in public wearing their pyjamas, like in Big C or Tesco's or whatever. Most amusing.

You should see what some of the farangs around here wear in public.

That gives me a great idea for a new photo thread.

As that's a translation can you tell us what the highlighted bit was in the original Thai?
