I'm realising that. I'm still shocked at their audacity, to ask me for 50,000 baht for a piece of glass, in a group. They must have hatched out a plot overnight. I really don't need crap like this so literally on my doorstep.
Maybe I should give up being a foreigner in a relatively new land. Its not essential to be here, its my choice and maybe I'm not suited to it.
^ Up to you. Not everyone can live here happily.
National parks admission 20baht for thai 200 baht for tourist
If you cannot handle it then best to go home
he's got a work permit so only 20 baht.Originally Posted by Thetyim

I have been happy until now. This is the first real problem. Is this sort of thing common? I read the word "opportunistic" on the other thread about the hotel window falling out. That is what it feels like to me. I feel that 99% of the people here are fine but there is 1% who are waiting for opportunities like this to come along. They'd never try to set me up with no intitial incident, but once it happened they maybe saw it as an act of buddha or something like that as a cash opportunity godsend to them.
with that sort of optimism, it's no wonder you get screwed.Originally Posted by richarda

Yes it was opportunistic but I would put the figure a lot higher than 1%
What scared me is how serious it was. A gang of them, 4 against 1. Banging on my door as if it was a police raid. The leader introducing himself as the hotel head of security in not bad English and telling me that I had done something that I know I didn't (kicked the door). The staff of my apartment watching on.
I'd recommend a Browning 9mm Hi Power.
while this thread has a higher cash value i still feel mine was better because it had pictures
where are you now?
Have you gone home yet.
Bolluxed if I'd let this one stew.
Your thread was very interesting. Thanks. Slightly different circumstances and they didn't try to pull a 1000% price increase on you. I still feel a bit foggy about the whole thing. I was sleepy last night when it happened and sleepy again when my door was banged. I didn't sleep until about 5am as I was mulling what happened over and I guessed they'd track me down but I didn't guess the 50,000 bit. I knew they'd want money out of me, evidence or no evidence.
^Why don't you get your girlfriend to go and talk to the people at your apartment and try and find out a bit more about it?

I like red devil myself, but you could be right.
I should have done something like that earlier but to be honest I didn't want to face this today. I have been sleepy all day after only about 4 hours sleep last night. Although go to the hotel, not my apartment. I don't want the staff there any more involved than they are already. I thought the staff there, reception and security, were there to help me, but they must have happily handed over my work permit photo copy and opened the security door to let the hotel security people in. I still haven't gotten over there being 4 of them. That was absolutely unnecessary, it must have been to intimidate me.

there are some very sceptical bastards on this forum.
do you have a camera or access to a camera?
i think they might believe you if you took a few pics of broken glass or police reports.
i believe you 100%.
^^ scampy, we are losing the plot, get back on track, add something new, something unexpected, like the security guards showing up at your gf place
Thanks Chiang Mai Noon. Its ok, most people are polite and interested. I learned who the idiots who want to play around are lots of pages ago and I'm not reading them now.
I don't have a camera at the moment. The glass was all cleared up, but not repaired, when I went to look for the existence of the cctv this morning.
