A few fake Remy Martins to watch The Equalizer 3 - Properly good action movie with heart and soul - 8.2/10

I thought I recognised the fictional location town of Altamonte and did some googling to find out that it was filmed in Atrani, the location for the epically good Ripley TV drama, which I just finished watching last week. A drive along the Amalfi coast is starting to become a minor bucket list contender item. Ideally (fictionally) in an Aston Martin but probably some cheap rental will be the reality, if it ever comes to fruition.

    What are you drinking today?-20241001_235447-jpg

My sister got me this bottle for my birthday in 2017. It is long since finished but since I am blessed with an uncultured palate I am free to fill it up with bottom shelf hooch brandy, do the syrup magic and Bob's yer gender neutral parent's sibling

I did do side by side taste tests while it still contained the good stuff and I could barely tell the difference, so I feel for me there is little point in spunking $130 on the real deal. Drinking it from the posh bottle does give a tiny little extra glow though.

Remy Martin is my favourite tipple, but yeah brandy is all good plus you'll get some of the flavour from the leftovers in the bottle.

I take my 0ne finger of brandy with three fingers of Buxton water, how do you take yours Loops?

Well I just arrived at my Pops place in the Wine Country with my wife and my first stop today will be my local liquor store to stock up. Choices Choices Choices. Endless Craft beer, 10 year Rye Whiskeys and Bourbons. Hangar 1 Vodka.

I had to laugh a bit, so on our trek here we rested in one of the lounges at BKK after our puddle jumper flight from Lampang. The bar selection can only make one laugh. Mekong or JW Red, Krukow Vodka, Tequila I have never even heard of and the full Goat piss selection on tap. World Class they say.

I was thinking about it before actually when I was on the way home from the shop with me supper.

One massive fucking hurdle though: a weekend in Amsterdam coming soon.

    Not. A. Chance.

I made up for your loss mate. No alcohol left in the house. I've drunk the place dry in less than a week of being back

Four Roses...I agree. I typically pick up a bottle of good "go to" as snubs called it. The McKenna I have never tried but was told by a buddy here it's extremely good Small batch 10 year.

These 2 are for enjoying while I am staying here. My Pops is going in for heart surgery Monday. I plan on staying here for awhile. I will definitely track down some "off the beaten" path Ryes to bring back. Clyde Mays comes to mind.

Well, I might be reduced to goat's piss judging by the weather forecast.

Best of health to your dad.

Good luck to your dad, Stumps.

When I enter Thailand I possibly have a couple of bottles of malt or maybe a bottle whisky and gin, and I never really consider getting stopped at customs as it just never happens. I have heard that there's a fine of 30,000 Baht per additional bottle over the 1 litre allowance.

It seems that you possibly also flaunt the duty free allowance and I'm wondering if you have ever had any issues?

Best wishes for your Pops stumps. Good on you for being there for him. Regarding Four Roses small batch, it is a fantastic value as it punches well above its weight class.

Thanks Cyrille, Mendo and Snubs. All in order and my wife and I being here keeps his focus off the surgery. At 88 there is always risks.

Apologies putting that in the Drinking thread.

    Back to Drinking

@ Mendo, (knocking on wood as they say) I have had no issues with bringing back bottles. I do have a few tricks I use which seem to work. The 1 liter limit is really odd as most are 750 ML so it should be changed to 1.5L but whatever, doubt that will change.

@ Cyrille. on the Goat Piss. I heard some weather is moving in from my SIL at the house and the Wang river is rising again after it had receded quite a bit.

@ Snubs, yeah Four Roses is a really nice pour at 104 proof. I always felt it was better than Blantons at a fraction of the cost comparatively speaking.
