I am trying to take a more disciplined approach to drinking. I let things slip in February and March and only had 2 glasses of wine for the duration but I am trying to make up for it in April.

Fancied trying a new single malt today. My sister in law & husband don’t drink so there unsurprisingly there was a lack of whiskey glasses. But I’m sure the taste will be the same. I also have not seen an 8 year old whiskey before, usually they come in 12 or 18 (and sometimes 10).

the verdict, quite ok but if I see the 12 or 18 next time I’ll try that instead. It’s a deep fruity whiskey with notes of peach and chocolate. No hint of smoke or peat.

^That is the same drop that my aussie BBQ lady guest brought as a gift last year. It is a nifty nip, tae be shure.

She gave me the 12 and I am drinking it from my grandad's whisky glass instead of my grandmother's sherry glass tonight to toast the arrival of a very manly guest in the form of a tiny Vietnam war parachute regiment special operations 1/6 scale Davis Knowlton

He is packing a miniature arsenal that I hope the real DK would approve of including the de rigeur M16 + a Mossberg M500 military pump action shotgun plus Davis's favourite personal security operations handgun the 0.45 Colt M1911 and a grenade launcher for good measure

He comes complete with tiny purple and yellow smoke cannisters to let close air support know where to drop more ammo when he runs out

He even comes with a pair of the jungle footprint boots which piqued my interest in the Vietnam war museum on my Vietnam trip
