I wasn't going to post this because I couldn't be arsed, but I saw something today that mad me sad that I had to pull over and compose myself.

Anyway, just before Christmas on my way home from Min Buri area (on the bike) I approached a few stationary cars on what really isn't a busy road. It's the main road the runs from Safari World if you know it. As I approached I could see a few people at the side saying "Die leaw', and in the middle of the road was a taxi and in front of that, a man and his bike on the floor motionless. The thing is, and as I slowed down as unfortunately I had to pass, the bike was about 2 meters in front of the car with the guy laying behind the back wheel with his leg more or less touching it. So my first though was this was a slow impact as there we no signs of damage on the taxi. Then, as I passed the bike I saw an object in the middle of the road. It was his helmet approx 2 meters in front of his bike. Basically the dumb twat hadn't fastened his strap from what I could figure, been hit from the back and slammed his head on the floor.

It was simply the death of an unfortunate fool! If he didn't want to wear his helmet that's his choice just as many in the US don't.

However, today, I was passing the immigration on Ram intra with the typical busy traffic. About 2 km past, the traffic started to slow so I weaved my way around and just as I passed a few cars I saw a chap jump off the floor and limp in my direction. As I got closer to him I then caught the sound of a child screaming, no more the 1 year old at a guess (My daughter is 14 month) with the mother desperately clutching her child. It sent shivers down my spine and having a daughter of my own I felt immediately distressed that a 1km on I had to pull over to compose myself. I've seen many accidents here which I've become immune to, but never a kid. That was a different feeling altogether. Why do they take such stupid risks. I do from time to time and I know it. But I'd never do it without protective clothing or put others at risk.

Just to add. One of my wife's staff was hit on a rented bike in CM. Again, it was slow, nearly stationary impact apparently, but he was knocked off and banged his head on the floor. He shook it off and all was well. On the way back by train, he told his GF he wasn't feeling to good so went to the toilet. He collapsed and died in loo on NYD!

Some will say they don't have the cash to ride safely. A Thai professor who studied in the US told me it's simply crazy culture!
