I can imagine that your Tagalog [or versions thereof] is civilised, yes Davis?
Not really. I already was near native in French, fluent in Hindi, ok in Thai, with some Arabic. It's far too easy not to bother to learn Tagalog, as all the Flips I deal with workwise, or friends, speak fluent English. Those that don't - workmen, etc - the wife handles. I understand Tagalog pretty well, but rarely speak it. We speak English in the home, as the twins get enough Tagalog exposure elsewhere. Sometimes I really think I ought to pick up a book and get to it, and then sloth and lethargy win out.
