I went though a similar ordeal in that I almost cut off my thumb a few years back. If you need therapy make sure you follow all the way through and be thankful you still have your nuts.

I understand mate but doing things myself helps me feel I am accomplishing something here as well as keeping fit.Originally Posted by nigelandjan

Mate, the specialist told me I was extremely lucky as I still have the movement and feeling in my fingers and wrist although it hurts like hell when I lower or raise my hand.Originally Posted by Loy Toy
I also noticed that I do have some abrasions and bruising about 3 inches bellow my bollocks so I was very very lucky.
Gracious, you're lucky to have survived.
For future reference isn't it better to just drive a spike into the remaining trunk and pour some thermonuclear weedkiller into the hole leaving time to do its job.
Not a macho thing Mark. Just a reaction and due to the fact I was such an idiot to try and do it the way I did particularly removing the safety guard which is a big no-no.Originally Posted by Katana

Anyway I have learned my lesson and hope others will not follow my path in trying to kill themselves.![]()
Glad you survived that one mate. Must have been horrific at the time.
Get well soon and wear a nut guard when doing any labor from now on.![]()
Jesus LT - bit of a horror story all round. Glad to hear you came out of it with limbs and nuts intact. Not sure which would be worse to lose to be honest.....
And - seriously - take it REAL easy. Let that arm rest and heal, trying to do stuff with it, and you may well eff it up even further. Healing takes time. Relax, allow yourself to be pampered - and leave off using that arm.
In your defense - you are in Thailand. Using the correct tools is a major faux pas.
^^^ Thanks Princey and I'll post a picture about just how close I was to losing my nuts when my missus brings my camera back.

Ahh fuck it, I will.
Take all of those antibiotics.... and forget all about the boozing with Rawlins for a while. There's a lot of nasties in Thailand that can still get in that wound.
Get Well Soon
Thanks mate and boozing will see me through.
Anyway here are some pictures that are not too graphic.
Firstly the worksite and as you see I was almost finished.
Then the machine of death.
And how close I come to losing my bollocks.
And the repaired bandaged lets arm still with 2 drains in it.
Jizzybloke should be turning up soon and we have been invited to a King's Birthday piss-up.
Glad to hear it wasn't a lot worse. Now that you are ok time for ripping the piss.....an angle grinder on a tree stump??? You have been infused with somchai's methods methinks!
Wish you a speedy recovery mate.
^
I did one by soaking it with diesel/paraffin and burning it.
Repeat three times and it was gone.
Hardly looks like a scene from a horror movie
Come on, lets have a look at your paper cut![]()
Thanks mate and I hope this thread is a wake up to others to be careful when doing things around the house.
When I was sitting in casualty two days ago I felt like such a buffoon wishing I could turn back the clock but shit happens and the best way to proceed is to think more before I attempt something and warn others about the dangers involved.
I consider myself very lucky that I did not do more damage to myself.
As mentioned I did try to burn it out but the inner trunk was full of water and it only sizzled and smoked for about 10 minutes.Originally Posted by Thetyim
Bloody hell. Sounds too close for comfort. Keep a sharp eyeon the wound. Lots of resistant bugs out there.
Hope you feel better soon and take it easy!!
That bloody saw looks deadly! Nearly was. Glad to see it did not dent your sense of humour, or your Aussie Quest fot the perfect beer.
I can imagine the nurses and doctors in there having a giggle and uttering things like... Ozzie Kee Neow Ting Tong take job from Thai Peopen. Sum Nam Na,Originally Posted by Loy Toy

Have a safe drink tonight and don't waste money on the one arm bandit.
May I enquire whether you were wearing gloves during this encounter with the grinder? Always amazes me to see people working with power tools or indeed just an axe and saw who do not bother with protective gloves. Fingers and hands are quite fragile but very useful and they tend to be the first things to interface with things both sharp and heavy.
Don’t argue with idiots because they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
Looks serious there LT but at least it wasn't your drinking arm.
I cut big trees down often. I have also got badly injured in my garden but I always seem to walk away unscathed from the dangerous stuff and then get hurt doing some silly inconsequential job.
Anyway here is one way to get rid of stumps. Open burning can take a long time - forced convection closed burn is hotter.
LT isn't that what is called Munting it? A Canadian would have used a chainsaw!![]()
